Well lad whats the craic from Cork myself and here now for a fair shot of years. Your best bet is with an OTR company but which one the question like. Back in 98 I went with Millis Transfer out of Black River WI and have to say they were sound out. I think you said your out on the shakie side so not sure if they hire out of there. Drove at home for a while when I got sick of this place, was running fish out of Castletownbere to all points outside for Vincie O'Sullivan,ah good old days belting down the M4 taking doors off Tesco lorries with my 143,I think them days are gone now but they make for a shot of good stories. What were you at back home yourself. Take her handy.

Don't know how you've done so far but if you can, instead of those bottom feeder companies who "offer" you school and then treat you like an "indentured servant" for a year, STRAY THE HECK AWAY from them! You can read all about them especially CR England in the "Bad Companies" forum! HINT: try a technical school. They have a better course at less than $350 up to $1500 than some of these pocket pickers at $5000!They are better at spending time with the individual student than most of those "company" schools!
Your biggest problem will be getting the backing squared away! As an ex instructor at a stand alone school south of Atlanta I had a couple from England as students and their hardest problem was backing! Our way of backing is your way of a blind side! Listening to them trying to figure it out got to be hilarious! But to watch them do our version of a blind side was fascinating! Hit the hole every time! Even better than me! LOL
Good kuck and let us know!

The trucking companies in Canada love European drivers. Any retraining or testing that needs to be done they pay for it. The company I work for has many drivers from over the pond, mostly the UK but most of Europe is well represented. Challenger Motor Freight in Vancouver BC is advertising for drivers right now. BC is a BEAUTIFUL place to live. Give them a call.

Been doing some research and thinking Watkins shephard looks good, they have 10 day orientation and don't fancy spending 6 weeks with a trainer. did you find any difference driving here? or was it same same?
Think your right about those days being gone, the guards are more on it now. Thnk i still have an unpaid speeding fine from the m50 in 98 lol. Was living in Bundoran for years before i moved out here, did a few runs for a local guy but had a good gig outside of trucking.
Anyway thanks for the reply, do you get back to the peoples republic much? -
How are the European drivers viewed over here? Are they seen as good to have in the company?
On your technical school point, i have been accepted to a foodlink truck driving school here in Sacramento that starts Nov 3rd, gonna cost me about $240 total with most endorsements. Just have to get a part time gig as well to supplement the income.
Thanks for the advice -

OH HECK YEAH! That $240 sure beats the $4000 and up schools! And the extra endorsements you put on the CDL when you test. Get as few or as many as you want!
