Question for O/O drivers. I'm looking for one or two regional loads a week while I get my website off the ground. Company driving jobs are usually full time+ commitments and I need something to basically just get me some part time regular work.

As owner operators, is there ever a time when you'd find it helpful to have another driver step in and cover a load for you? Is this a worthwhile situation for me to pursue, or would it be not worth the hassle for most o/o drivers to mess with it?

Any advice or ideas on how to get a 1 or 2 day a week route? Coming to the forum here was my first step, going to post on craigslist next and see what comes in. I feel like I'm going to have to finesse this search a little bit though, as most company driver jobs seem to be full time, and I can't see most o/o wanting to loan out their truck to just anybody.

    Thanks for any input,
    Zach

O/O's work over 70 hours a week and still has a better than 90% failure rate. This is simply not an industry where part time business owner will do anything but be a money sink.

That said, there are temp driving agencies that you can work part time as an employee.

I actually became an OO for more time off. I wanted more free time. I'm working my tail off for the next 3-4 weeks. Then taking off a week for vacation, then a bear hunt week, then a week chasing shaptail grouse.

My equipment is paid for though.

I'm confused ...are you looking to be a co. driver or an O/O ? An O/O can work however much he wants. He owns the truck and can run it as much as he wants (legally). But you will have expenses, insurance, reg, permits which all come due even if the truck sits in your driveway 5 days a week.

A co. driver can work for a co. less than full time if he can find such a co. You might try a temp agency, work when you want.

All those fed ex contractors might be looking for a extra board type person, called when needed type of thing, or regular 2-3 days a week. I would check with them. If you have a Fed Ex Hub in your area.

I've known a few 0/0's that only worked weekends for intermodal companies.
