we are MARRIED to our trucks

when my wife wants money, i have the option of saying NO

when my truck wants money, it gets every dime it wants

i sleep with my wife, 10 days out of the month
i sleep with my truck the other 20 days

my bed in my truck is more comfortable than my bed at home

as a matter of fact, my truck is my home, that building i go to is my "home away from home"

now back to the original post, nothing to be ashamed of in trucking, for i also had those same fears when i stop being a manager and became a truck driver, truck driving is not looked at as the most prestigious job you can have

but i will say this, owning your own truck, making more money than you made before, and being in command of your income without some suit standing over you telling you to have some reports ready or some nonsensical staff meeting outdoes a "real job" any day

    be proud, marry your truck

Believe it or not, years ago military recruiters would go to court rooms and in many cases the judge would make that offer. They stopped that practice after the Vietnam war and after that had a form the recruiter had to sign for each recruit that, that didn't happen.

Tell them they can support your decision to drive a truck or support you to live in their house. They may pack your bags and start redesigning your room.

Tell them you work in an undercover capacity for the FBI investigating Mafia connections to truck hijackings and not to ever ask questions because your work is classified. Every now and then hand them a news article about a major cargo theft ring being busted and give them a quick wink and smile while holding a finger to your lips and saying "shuuuuu".

I might disagree with that statement. If you have any self respect and expect the same of others in your same "profession", you will become very dis-heartened, very quickly. I will provide a sample of what I mean with this snippet of a post made today ...
We all try and think of ourselves as professional and above the fray but the "general public" assumes the lowest common denominator. The good news is the general public only sees our [poor] driving skills and our piss jugs on the side of the road. Thank goodness they don't see all the other crap that goes on "out back" on the big trucks side.

My mother hates that I drive a truck always has and always will, but she still supports it. My dads as proud as he can be.

My grandpa (trucker for 60+years) gave a piece of advice, Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly. If no one else tells you this, I just told you.

Unless this is the 13th career change in the past 3 years of your life and they bankrolled $100,000.00 's in tuition that you still owe them for all the other careers what does it really matter.

Truck driving is a "job", "unskilled labor", not a "career". After a couple years you look over your shoulder and there's 1000 qualified guys standing in line to take your job and do it just as well if not better for less money.

Are you sure you're not just eyeballing a path of least resistance? I can assure you, truck driving is more different than similar to what you imagine.
