Why is truck driving unskilled labor? Not everyone could do this job.

    Tonythetruckerdude and mje Thank this.

Depends on what kind of driver you are I guess.

The job isn't rocket science. Having the right set of skills, attitude and work ethic to do it well isn't all that common though.

    Tonythetruckerdude and mje Thank this.

Because the US Dept. of Labor says it is... and truck drivers might complain, but they ain't gonna do jack. Hearing the term "professional driver" apparently satisfies.

You mean those too young or old, or blind and crippled? Most can, after very little training.

The vast majority don't do "this job", they do their own personal interpretation of it (as little of "this job" as they can away with) but that's another issue.

    mje Thanks this.

Really dude? Man up and tell them. I went to college on their dime and it didn't work out. After job hopping 10 years in office work I just said I'm going to trucking school. They said okay. They want me to go local, don't like me doing otr but I do it because I love it and its my job. Cowboy up. Be a man and tell them. Its your life not theirs.

There's only 2 primary kinds I know of, experienced and rookies. Rookies tend to bump into stuff, it usually takes many years of speeding and tailgating "experience" to become involved in the catastrophic crashes.

No, it's harder than rocket science. Rocket science can't ignore the laws of physics and get away with it for years or decades.

:biggrin_2551: Yeah Right it can happen to ANYONE at ANYTIME and not of your making regardless to the years of experience

WRONG. ..WRONG. ...WRONG AND WRONG. Driving is a career and does take skill to do it right and make an income. Some of us have been, and will continue to drive for years. I own my own house, my truck and trailer and am completely debt free. Have been that way for 7 years now. It's all thanks to my career in trucking. If you treat as unskilled labor then sure there are 1000 qualified guys to take your job. With all that being said if you're worried about telling your parents then you probably have the same mindset as gpsman and should look for a career that will better suit you.

Rocks, UTurn1, tinytim and 2 others Thank this.
