Im all of the above but that doesn't mean I don't consider trk driving more of a job then a career. We're not even treated like professionals but more like trained seals. We don't get the respect we deserve.Aprofessional gets paid more.A doctor or lawyer, now those are professionals. But truck driving, more like labor and not very skilled these days.

So I guess running HazMat would be unskilled and not constituted as "special"?

You are the one that made the comparison of this industry being "unskilled". So by your own rebuttal you are stating that we have a higher skill than standing "over a grill or cash register".

You're reading comprehension needs work, but let me try again: There are few if any drivers who have NEVER been surprised and had to tromp on the brakes.

    Make sense now...?

Fascinating analysis. Do you have anything to offer as a "rebuttal"?

Ah yes, if you can't attack the message then go after the messenger.

My comprehension is fine though I should have worded my response differently.

So, to the OP. Tell 'em straight up what you want to do. Tell them to sit down. If they don't want to sit place them next to the bed so it won't hurt when they faint. Hold your head high. Express to them all that's in your heart and mind. If they have a problem it will be their problem and even if they do it could very well be temporary. Once they see you are happy, assuming you are, of course, they will go along and at least honor your choice with respect.

Let me put it this way. The worst thing that can happen if they don't give you their "blessing" is that you don't have their blessing. The worst thing that can happen if you decide against giving a trucking career a try based on their pressure/influence is you will regret it for the rest of your life.

Even if they don't like it and you do it anyway I'll bet you they'll at least find some new-found respect for you.

    Not the argument.

No, I pointed out the US DOL classifies it as "unskilled labor", I didn't compare it to anything.

You're lost. It's not a matter of all unskilled labor being equal. That doesn't make any more sense than trying to equate all skilled or professional occupations.

It seems reasonable to assume the amount of training required suggests a low level of skill. Some CDL holders have NO training beyond their basic Driver's Ed., and some don't even have that.
