I'm looking at trading my current truck for a 2008 670 with a ISX ST2 and 10 spd Ultrashift. Truck is a fleet turn in with 469,000 miles and it also has the DPF. Anyone care to give me advice or what you know about this setup would be great. I've never owned a Volvo or a cummins, always been a Cat guy. I'm looking for fuel mileage is why i want to trade. I'm hearing bad things about the ISX and the DPF from people who wrok on them. Thanks

Wow, know one have any advice on this setup? The deal im being offered to trade is very well worth it but the unknowns are keeping me from it. I have a 04 379 short hood with a 435 cat,13spd and 3.36s. I only get 5.5 to 5.75 mpg and im sure a 670 Volvo with a 450 isx would be much better.

You are going to see a huge MPG improvement but likely not be happy with the ISX DPF. After all these years seems to be the only engine that has not had all the issues worked out.

Also, need to watch what fleet it came from. Some still change oil at 30k with no samples being pulled to see if all is OK. And those are the ones that will never change the tranny/diff fluid the whole time.

Well, I have a Volvo with a Cummins, but the similarities basically end there.

I have a 500 ISX and a 13 spd. Mine does not have the DPF garbage. I get right around 6.0 mpg usually, but I am pulling a heavy reefer in the Northeast. What are you pulling?

I have had no major issues with the Volvo or ISX. The Volvo is the most comfortable truck I have ever had.

Thank you for the reply. I've been talking to the fleet this truck i'm looking at came from and was told 30k oil changes is what they do. Not good i know.

I pull containers out of Memphis, TN and mostly 53 ft ones. I run mostly east out of Memphis, about 350-550 miles round trip monday thru friday.

I live in Florida Run all across the country US and CA, with lots of different type, size, and weight. I have Volvo 670 06 Cummins ISX 500hp 13sp. eaton fuller.
    ratio 3.58. Was going 6.3mpg.
Recently had a problem with two screws broke down on me. Between engine and engine manifold, since then i pull fine with great power, the only thing is wasting allot of fuel, from 4.5-5.9 mpg. max.

Well after talking to a few shops and people who work on the ISX and DPF trucks i will be keeping my current truck. I'm sticking with my 379 short hood 435 cat for now. The ISX with EGR, EGR cooler, VG turbo and DPF have scared me away from trading for the 08 670 i was looking at. Thank you guys for the replies and advice.
