Much thanks to notarps4me & everyone else. I don't feel so outnumbered anymore. OK, here we go. According to the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 each sample is divided into two , a primary & a split sample. If the primary tests positive, then the Doctor or MRO is required conduct an interview with person to determine alternative medical explanation for positive reading. This interview can be done over the phone. The doctor should NOT hang up on you. If primary is positive, the driver has 72 hours to request split specimen be sent to DHHS certified lab for analysis. They are supposed to do a gas chromotography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) which will tell them everything from your shoe size to your favorite color. It sounds expensive to me. I wonder about the motive behind all the things that Robert at Stevens told me. I got ahold of the FMCSA this morning & they want me to write my Stevens experience in a letter & an impartial third party will look into it & let me know. You know, I just wanted to drive a truck. I never wanted all this grief. To everyone who responded to my cry for help, if I could I would buy all of you a steak dinner. My money is starting to get tight tho & I pray I don't wind up back in the oilpatch spinning chain, or slingin pipe.

I am fairly new to the industry only about 14 months. I came up positive for cocaine, My girlfriend has been trying to get me to try it and I don't and don't know much about it. I was leaving for a new job and when she went to kiss me good bye she had blown the smoke in my mouth.I didn't think anything of this at the time. Well sure enough I came up positive.I recieved a letter from the company stating I can't operate a commercial vehicle until I complete a sap program. I am currently enrolled for that now. My sap counseler said that the company totally treated him badly on this issue. This is a pre employment test. I don't list them as anybody I worked for. Can they put this on my dac? Will I ever beable to drive again? I truly just want to drive and don't know where to turn. If anybody could give some advice I sure would appreciate it

Some advice? Get rid of the girlfriend. She knows you are a driver and she wants you to try cocaine? You don't need that in your life.

My sentiments exactly. A drug user has no place in a non-drug user's life. Unless you're fabricating this story. Sounds like you got caught but are trying to save face to me. I would know if my girlfriend had just taken a hit off the crack pipe and came to give me a kiss without exhaling. But then, I'd not be with a woman who hits a crack pipe.

one I got rid of the girlfriend, and I am not trying to save face. I knew she was hitting it but didn't know she was going to do that. thanks for your input. I don't blame her I blame myself for staying with her. But regardless I got caught and sure could use some advice. Is anybody out there had similar problem willing or unwilling that was able to continue to drive? If so what did you have to do? I am in process of starting sap. Is there hope after sap?

drug abuse is ever present on the road... the old schoolers who used road dope have all but faded away - but a new generation of crackheads are gaining rank out here on the road.

testing has come a long way in reducing the number of false positives -

Mythbusters had an interesting episode where they tried like hell to get false positives using all the old wivestales.

jamie had to eat about a quarter pound of poppy seeds before it showed as an opiate / derivative. and that is the funny thing - OPIATE / DERIVATIVE... that is the language testing companies (US lab scantech etc etc) use to limit their liability if they were to get sued...

their results that are positive say the individual tested positive for a derivitive of opium or a derivitive of cocaine or a derivitive or substrate THC (marijuana).

most modern (last 3 years or so) testing methods are much more accurate than the broad spectrum test....

BUT the more accurate test cost big bucks and companies do not utilize these test...

example - standard THC scan using urine based FFD^6 test cost 12 bucks per unit - and needs 50ml of urine no more than a week old.

new style FFD^14 test uses 5 ml of blood in conjunction with a serum report utilizing 50 ml of urine - VERY accurate in regards to if someone "inhaled" in the last few weeks - but it also cost 200 bucks

the hair sample test that was developed in the 1990's was overhypped and only indicates THC trace (ppb) and ghost THC echoes in the root and introduced hair shaft - cost is 350 bucks - and usually not used anymore -

the FFD^14 test is utilized mainly in court cases or matters of serious financial loss or damage (i.e. trucker kills a bunch of people and dot demands super scan test).

    whehe!!! my fingers are tired...

    anyway

you guys take a wild guess who worked a bit in the chem lab while in college... hehehhehe

I think you're right Tarps, Not doing any recent research, but concerning split samples... I want to say they've already tested the split confirming the posative result, but as always, I could be wrong.

Concerning ibuprofen causing false hits... sounds like Hogwash. Ibuprofen's a very common OTC pain reliever. If it did, there wouldn't be any drivers on the road.

Maybe pay for your own screen from a reputable company and provide prospective employers with the results up front. Good luck!
