I've got some questions about these types of jobs. I might have something lined up to haul these (probably will do both types). I hear the front loaders can be tricky to learn (you know the trucks that pickup the dumpsters? I hear the dumpsters can get stuck or fall in). Any advice? What's a typical shift like? Start around midnight, run the route and head to the dump and get off around noonish right?
How about roll-offs? Like the kind of containers roofers use. Just trying to get a heads up on what to expect from this type of work and things to make the days go smoother. I figure with the economy the way it is, garbage and refuse will always be around.
Any advice is appreciated!

OK, rolloffs aren't bad, but, sometimes you have to mess with tight drops and traffic etc. And drop the new one, pick up the old one, move it, drop it pick up the new one and put it where the old one was then pick up the old one and scoot down the highway.

Well I will get paid by the hour lol. I've had to do that sort of thing a few times with the 53'er for free practically. It's going to be weird to get used to driving a straight truck after hauling a combo for so long. I know one day I'll start to back it like it's a trailer lol.

One thing you best be aware of...... you will have no idea of how much weight is in that garbage container. People will put the damndest things in em. Once saw an oil-change shop that had a tank rupture and leave the floor 2 inches deep in old, dirty oil. They cleaned it up with oil absorbant and put that in (you guessed it) the garbage hopper. Dang near filled it. When the picker truck showed up he couldn't lift the hopper for the weight of it.

Yeah I can imagine wet kitty litter would be extremely heavy. I think the customer would be responsible for getting it out of there in a case like that. -
lol just found this vid of somebody having some fun while loading the container.

I remember working an accident a few years back where there was a roll off container in the middle of the highway, no clue where the container truck was!
The bin was empty so I winched it up onto the plate of my Rollback and jooked on down the road.rubbergearsnextyear Thanks this. -
I wonder how the driver went about explaining that one to the boss.

Rolloffs are fun. The perks are excellent
Many stores will throw their returns away. I've gotten fishing rods, camping gear, TV's and VCR's that were easy fixes and other golden treasures, lol.
You'll become a dumpster diver for sure!
I filled in on the front loader before. It's not that hard with a little practice. You just have to be smooth.rubbergearsnextyear Thanks this. -
One man's trash is another man's treasure right?
