i haven't been doing this for long, I'm in my early 20's but I'm not thinking about tomorrow right now. Well I am, but I'm not gonna up and get my own authority tomorrow. I just want advice on how to get it started. I figure by the time I'm 30, I could have a few trucks, a few drivers and be running the show. How did you get started? Was it difficult? Is it worth it?

I am in the same boat.. or cab I guess.
Late 20s solid experience just looking for an O/O to learn from. Have started a plan that will put me behind the wheel in 2 years. Wondering if it's better to get your own authority before truck or at same time.. just trying to learn like you hope somebody replies to your question best of luck and whatever you do keep rollin -
Just read the infamous doubleyellow thread
username6988 Thanks this. -
I would apply for a MC number now and activate it when you are ready.
Some brokers see the new MC number and don't want to deal with new carriers, but they would deal with older numbers without checking on how long they have been activeusername6988 Thanks this. -
Don't think that would really work since to get set up with a broker or company to pull freight for them they will require you send them your operating permit which shows the date it went active.Ruthless Thanks this.

It's not difficult but like everything it takes money to make money. So think about what kind of freight you want to pull van flat etc. save money keep an eye out for equipment. You will make mistakes your young and can overcome them.username6988 Thanks this.

unfortunately it is too easy, one reason why there are so many failures.
Start with learning your job the best you can, then go from there.passingthru69 and username6988 Thank this. -
Right, that's how it usually works. It's just some agents are weird, my MC starts with 9 and broker would not even set me up, my buddy calls, gets set up and gets the load with his 8 MC, even though he went active 3 months after me. I don't have a rational explanation for that

I'm 21. I love this job already but it's not something I wanna do for 45 years. I want an established small business in 15 years. It's so long down the road but there's an enormous amount of money to be made.
