What "storage company" is going to off load some truckers product, who just showed up unannounced, and states "charge Company X for this"?
I'm sure they want to be in the middle of such a dispute.
Advice on off load delays!

Man, you guys have all the fun with these brokered loads!
-
Yeah so much fun I think I might just sit a couple extra days.

Ask them to sign your bills refused. When they ask why. Tell them you already have another load booked and you fulfilled your contract with them. Place it in storage for them to pick up at their convenience.

Been there done that. Picked a load in N.H. to deliver next day (Fri) by 11am in ATL. Arrived at receiver at 10 and they stated they only receive Sun - Thurs starting at 11pm.
Called broker informed them I had a reload already scheduled to head home for the weekend and they could either pay my rate for the load I lose ($1100) or pick up their load at a cross dock. They huffed and puffed saying they weren't paying that kind of detention rate and countered with $400. I politely told them I would call them back shortly with the details for the cross dock who would have their load and the details on the cost for the services.
We finally agreed on $750 to sit on the load until Sun. Once I got my express code all was well.
Ended up delivering Saturday around 7pm and d/h home. Cost $250 in fuel but still cleared $500 -
I ran into the kind of thing a lot on the bad old days when I hauled produce. I'm a hard headed yankee. I know how to play the game. These people would try to use me as cold storage. It didn't work out so well for them when I'd say ok I'll wait. But I'm not running the refer.
