Hey guys! I'm probably going to be going to school in Jan for my CDL and had a question about where to work. I am in Chattanooga, TN and here is a list of companies with terminals within 30 miles, Tell me what ya think if they would be a good fit.
US Express
Covenant (I have heard to stear clear of them)
Averitt Express (Hear they are good, but require 6 mo+ experience)
USF Holland
Wilson
South Eastern
PAM transport
I'm looking for regional solo preferably with decent pay and benefits where I can at least come home to see my family every 5-10 days. I'm single and live with my mother for now. Maybe this info would help you!
Thanks

How could you go wrong with something like that! -
i think you may be hard pressed to get in with usf right out the door. but if you rn with one of the other companies for 6 months to a year im sure youll have a lot better chances of getting in with them. i went with covenant right out of school and it was a joke. i stayed out for almost 3 months for training. all my trainer did was sleep and i didnt learn ####. after that i teamed for 3 or 4 months coming home every 2 to 3 weeks and that was also a joke. i made more training than when i was running teams. i hear us express is just as bad if not worse, so i would steer clear of them too. i havnt heard anything else about the other companies. PAM came into my school and they talked a good game other that that i dont know. good luck to ya.

Holland - is best but very hard to get into.
South Eastern - very good
Tribe Transport - Cleveland, GA - very good
Averitt - good - sometimes take recent CDL grads
Wilson - good if it's the Teamsters division
Marten Transport - has a good regional program
Tankstar - Chattanooga division sometime hire recent grads if you make a good impression. They will send you to tanker school in South Carolina at their expense.
Look at the websites & talk to the companies. Ask if they will recognize your CDL school. Sometimes they waive the 6 mos. exp. required if it's a good school. Might give you a pre-hire if you submit online application. -
Try Tyson Foods out of Springdale Arkansas, 1-800-933-6442. They have a reputation for treating their drivers quite well. They are NON-union. They also take graduates form company approved truck driving schools. I believe that Tennessee is one of their hiring areas.
Good luck to you.123456 Thanks this. -
knock pam off the list. they do not do regional, required a minimum 3 weeks out before you go home, and are required to run team for first 6 months.

May want to check out epes transport. Great company . They hire out of select schools. Place in morristown tn. Am a trainer for them .

I'd go to southeastern before Holland. Holland falls under the YRC umbrella and they're still on very shakey ground financially. Southeastern is decent enough and their future is brighter. Chinatown, I wasn't aware Wilson was union in some locations. Do you know which ones?

You need to call Averitt Recruting and find out if the school your are attending is on their list . They have a cpl of schools they will hire from and put you in a 5 week training course with a trainer when you come on board . See if your school is ok with them .
