I have a pre-hire with TMC. I've been trying to line a place up, but running into some trouble. I live in Minneapolis and want to stay up here if I can...but finding a place where I could park the semi & trailer is trying. Checked on Craigslist & there is places in the country that would be ideal, but paying $500 + a month for 6-8 days seems dim to me. Single and unsure what to do.
What do you all do?

I have yet to see a house or apartment that let's you keep you stuff there all month but only pay on the weekends. You are going to need somewhere to keep you stuff...at a minimum a storage locker. I would assume apartments in the MSP metro would be hard to come by at $500.00 + you would need to find a place to park the truck...possibly having to pay for a spot. I think you would be best to explore the house in the country with room to park the truck option. Try to find a roommate or two that can cover part of your rent and take care of maintenance.

Who told you that you would be off and at home on weekends?
LostOne9, skellr and Semi Crazy Thank this. -
@ AUTOCAR - TMC advertises it's truckers can spend 46/52 weekends at home. It's employees have confirmed that on these forums.
@ CPAPE - Out in the country is what I was looking for. I find it silly to pay any more than a couple hundred per month when I won't be around more than 8 days in a month. I'm sure you would feel the same? If I did get an apartment, the only issue would be parking the semi and trailer. I haven't called around at this point to find out if they accommodate such a practice, but I'm thinking few do. I've seen semis parked at apartment complexes, certainly not a semi and flatbed trailer though. But you're right having somewhere to park the POV & store personal junk is essential. I'm sure this is only an issue with the single folks in the flatbed trucking community. -
I would take that with a grain of salt.
If you are single, why rent a place? Rent a storage locker for your stuff and spend your off time at a motel. Then you only pay for the time you are there, don't have utility bills, get maid service and have a parking place. -
It's an idea at least. Thanks.
The premise of renting a place is to still have some roots at home. I chose TMC because they work to get you home on weekends. Members on these forums have confirmed that they do a pretty good job of that. If I can't figure anything out by the time I'm free from the trainer I'll definitely be considering your advice. Since you suggested that can I assume most hotels/motels have no qualms with truckers' equipment being parked there? It's a lot of space to take up. -
Are you just looking for a place to park the truck when you are home? If so just park it south of town on US52, at the truck stop.
-
@ Oscar - More or less. I'll be up in Minneapolis, but if I can do that at any truck stop...that's an ape off my back! Then I could park my POV there when I'm gone "flatbedding" for the week and drive home from the truck stop every Friday.

There are plenty of motels and hotels with truck parking. We did it for years and saved a lot of money, plus no musty odors, when we got home.

Appreciate it Autocar!
