Just got my CDL and have several companies to choose from. Have heard horror stories about some training programs, orientations, etc. I'm an older trainee (50s) from the DC area (not a problem to relocate) I'd love to get some feedback about these companies: Werner, Prime, Knight Refer, RE West, DM Bowman. And, if you have other suggestions as to who to approach I'd certainly welcome the wisdom. Thanks
Advice on which company to go with.

Do you have to pay personal income taxes in DC? If so, move to a state with no personal income taxes and pretty good weather year round; Texas, Las Vegas Nevada, etc.
Of the companies you listed, I would go with RE West, Prime flatbed, Prime tanker.
Have you been to a CDL school or are you looking for a trucking company CDL school? If you've already completed a CDL school, then you have many, many options. -
I went to a CDL school and just got my CDL-A yesterday - also got my Tanker endorsement and will soon have my HM and TWIC card. Thanks for the advice.

Look at some tanker companies that hire new CDL grads; you will need the hazmat & TWIC for most of them.
Superior-Carriers
Schneider tanker division
SVTN
CTL
Sometimes companies that advertise "experience required" occasionally hire new CDL grads on a case by case basis, but don't advertise it: Clean Harbors, Foodliner are two examples.
Ozark Motor Lines is 100% no-touch freight/no Canada/no NYC.
Melton Truck Lines is flatbed 48 state carrier
System Transport is flatbed 48 state carrier-you would have to relocate to within their hiring area. On the website click on "drivers/owners" for a map of the hiring area. -
Look at Crete/Shaffer.
