My advice is don't cross scales and don't volunteer any more info than they ask for if you get stopped..
That's been my motto for a very long time....

Actually the company is required to keep the engine information on file not the driver. However, I am an OO with my own authority and I have a 2000 Pete with a 97 engine. I carry the engine build sheet in the truck with me, I was only asked for it once during an inspection. So I recommend that you carry one in the the truck with you.

You don’t need 14 days of logs. You need 7 previous days. Your way over thinking this. Just make sure your engine shows 99 or older.

Any receipts during my trip I clip to the log for that day. Kind of a seal of verification if they do look at your logs, they can match up the time on the log to the receipts. Been doing it since the 80’s with good results….

As far as proving that your truck is Elog exempt, you dont have to carry anything. The regulations (Ive read them front to back and its not many of them) say that a DOT officer can refer to a federal or state agency for further investigation. You have no burden of proof to prove your elog exempt during an inspection or otherwise.

Same rules apply to paper log as E-log......

Read below. Never listen to another driver as being the gospel. FMCSA is the end all be all when it comes to logs. Drivers can only share experiences. I personally have not been asked for my log book in several years, but that's me.

YouTube Trucker says 14 days? I’ll stick with the Fmcsa guidelines. I keep 8-11 days available for inspection on hand. No more than 11. Another rule is originals are supposed to be on file at main Office within 12 days. Don’t need any arguments with DOT, They’re on file in my clipboard, till I get home. I don’t use the copy. Only 1 copy. On file at Office for 6 months. Then same copy for taxes. If for some reason I need to produce 6 mo. Logs before July, they’re in my tax return records. Makes everything simpler. I copy only.

been my motto of late too, about a year ago mr dot flipped through the logs twice but I’m convinced they don’t know how to read paper any more either.

He did however find a “chaffed” brake like the 3rd time he went under the truck In the 2+ hours I was there….
