For 3 months now, I've been actively reading posts, literally thousands of them, through which experienced drivers have poured out their experience and time-tested wisdom to us wannabes. For that, I am deeply in your debt. I'm about 4 months away from my own personal "Square One", i.e., starting driving school. My OCD still cries out for more, more, more! I'm compiling an "on-paper reference file" to refer to once I'm in school, in training, and then "out there". I acknowledge that much of what I'll need to know will only come from my own, "hands on" experience but I'm convinced, beyond any doubt, that wannabes, maybe now more than ever, must live on the cutting edge of information ingestion. So, I guess what I'm asking, once again, is for you experienced drivers to dig deep into your experience resource store and lay out the path we, the wannabes, need to follow. Thank you for all you've already done for us and for what you might share now!
Advice to a wannabe revisited....time after time after time!!!!

Okay, oldnewb...here is my contribution to this vast body of knowledge you request from us...
PAY ATTENTION!! (and leave behind what is irrelevant, or harmful...REMEMBER to always take what is needed, and leave the rest behind!)
Not only to what others here will say, but your instructors, trainers, and fellow students.
While you are in school, or training... it's EXPECTED that you will mess up a time/thing or so...RELAX!! You will get another chance at it . Learn from your mistakes BEFORE you get out on that big, bad road!
KNOW that you have friends here you can come to...for answers, for help, and/or just to gripe!!

After it's all said and done, what matters is what you do and how you do it. And My most famous quote "Whatever you think trucking is, it isn't". So, don't try to absorb too much info on here, it just confuses your wittle pea piken' brain!
JustSonny Thanks this. -
You'll do fine as a newbie, somewhere between being a newbie and being a seasoned trucker there's an area where you can turn into Billy Big Rig or the notorious Supertrucker when you know it all,can do it all, nobody else knows anything but you, that's when things usually go wrong.
Be careful and good luck!LavenderTrucker, JustSonny and simplyred1962 Thank this. -
Just remember we all started out as newbies at one time or another....some of these drivers out here would swear that they were born with a steering wheel in there hands. Don't get in a rush doing anything out here, thats usually when things start going wrong. You can't learn everything in 1 week, I have been out here over 10 years, and not a week goes by that I don't learn something new out here. Trucking is a hard life to get used to, but once it gets in your blood its hard to get out of the industry. Be safe, be patient and good luck.

Everyday is a learning day and try to do better the next day than the one before. You shouldn't have to impress anyone but yourself. If you find useful information I would write it down and keep a record. You can do that for just about anything including the best places to eat. Don't become too complacent in the job because that's when sh=t happens.
Try to be the best defensive driver you can and don't let the little things bother you. Just stay cool and learn all you can.JustSonny, simplyred1962 and LavenderTrucker Thank this. -
