Advice to: New drivers riding bus to orientation

This is not a question from a new driver, but I post this here because new drivers probably browse this section the most.

Bottom line: If you will be riding a bus to your orientation for a new job, or switching jobs, carry as much of your belongings as you can on the bus with you. Especially if you have to make a connection or switch buses anywhere. Most especially, if you make more than one connection.

If possible, I would even advise shipping your stuff by UPS if you have the money and there is a location where it can be received.

I just finished driving a bus for the past four months. It was not with Greyhound but with company that works with Greyhound. And the luggage situation is a complete mess. Everyday, luggage is lost or sent to the wrong location many times just because the luggage handlers don't go through it all to see where it's supposed to go.

If you have no other choice, make sure you watch at every connection and make sure your luggage goes with you. Unfortunately, though, this is not always possible and at some locations they won't allow you to watch. At the very least, carry all important documents with you and have enough clothes to get by on if your bags are lost. I could go into much more detail about all the problems associated with the luggage handling but won't bore you.

I put in my two-week notice and will be going back to the trucking company I worked at before.
