The trailer I'm using now is a Conestoga 2, and the roller wheels have always been oiled by previous drivers. It's my understanding that these wheels have internal sealed bearings? I would like to clean the old grimy oil up and leave it dry, if this is the case.

What do you know, oil or no?

I had an older Conestoga years ago, it was an 06 model and to be honest i learned the hard way on mine. I oiled the rollers and mine always ended up with a bunch of crap around them and made them worse.

Replaced with all new rollers and left them dry. Never had an issue after that.

Mine seemed to stiffen up at one time. Shot some pb blaster in them and they work great again. My company says to spray them every once in awhile so :dontknow:

    Precision Maintenance....

Of course, this way they can blame the driver if they hang up and have to be replaced. "You didn't spray them every once in a while enough....

I pulled a Conestoga at PGT for 9 months. Several types Merritt, aero, couple of others. We only use water based lubricants like WD-40 or PB blaster on the wheels about once a month then used water to clean them out. Seldom had issues

Nether WD-40 or PB Blaster are a water based lubricates.Water based lubricates are usually used in the bedroom o_O and would not be very effective or long lasting for lubricating rollers.

PB Blaster is a penetrating oil (a very low-viscosity oil).

WD-40 is a water displacement fluid (that's where the "WD" comes from) so it repels water. Its made of naphthenic hydrocarbons and mineral oil, some use is as a penetrating oil.

I agree both are a better choice than a heavier oil that will catch more dirt.

So, is there a way to get at the internal bearings without disassembly?
