Have 6 more loads to do and thats it. Truck and trailer are allready for sale. What drove the nail in the coffin was 3 things for me.
1 after i did my end of year profit and loss the net i earned for the work, miles and time involved just is not worth it any more for me to. Profit was good but not enough for me to keep putting the time into it anymore and loseing so many weekends to working on the truck and trailer.
2 the big guys are flloding this area with flats and the rates are starting to go down and fast. The $2.50 a mile loads i had leaveing New England are dropping below $2 a mile and its getting harder the book them because there gone so fast. My lowbed has not moved in months and the rates for that are in the toilet also.
3 Found some invoices from 9 years ago and the rate back then was more than today and fuel was $1.80 a gallon. That realy did it for me.

Have landed a job with a local company running a 2010 pete tri axel dump a pay loader and lowbed for real good money and benifits. Time for a change. I will miss running for myself but will not miss all the bs lately and the riseing cost of trucking.

Can not waite to sell the truck and trailer and go out and buy an old cabover, 359 or w900a and restore. Then start hitting the ATHS shows.

I'm probably hanging it up for all the reasons you listed and then some,I quit using my authority 6 years ago and "leased" onto a fairly decent company, but with all the new regulations and liabilities coming up in the next 18 months it just isn't worth it any more. I'm going to get out before things get ugly.

Has nothing to do with adjusting. Only 4 years you have alot to learn yet about trucking. It has to do with rates and fuel where they are and price's for parts and labor keep going up and rates are going down. I can adjust to anything but when it takes more money and time to do the same job for the same money its not worth it to me. Was doing fine untill the big boys got into some of my shippers and the rates started a down hill run and fast.

Sorry to hear it, good luck. At least you leave on your own terms and not devastated. What is your tractor specs, miles, price? Separate from trailer to sell?
