    HI Everybody,

I bought a 2014 Peterbilt 388 with 350,000 miles on it. Before go to pickup the
truck, the sales representative confirmed that the oil and all filters was changed
assuring me that everything was taken care of and I'm good for another 15k miles at
least. When I came to pick up the truck and performed a basic PTI I noticed that there was no oil. It was a disappointment that the due diligence on company's part was not exercised.
(the shop manager) and his mechanic added 6 more gallons to whatever was in there.
First 63.5 miles after I left the dealership, on my way to pick up a load, the engine light came up stating the engine would derate and stop in 3 hrs. Had to go out of my way
in order to find a shop located in less than 3 hrs drive.
I stopped at a Peterbilt Shop , where they performed a REGEN, clearing out the codes.30 miles later, the same message but different code appeared. Due to the fact that the first
shop was about to close in half an hour and it was a Friday night.
I had no choice but to drive to a MHC Kenworth shop which was in a close proximity. 250 miles later, for the 3rd time in two days, the engine light came up, this time with no derate message,
when I was on my way to deliver a load. After 800 miles I left the truck in a Peterbilt shop with the hope that this time it won't give me any other problem.( replace the NOX Sensor).
Trying to avoid any further problems and despite dealer's statements that the oil was changed, I went ahead to check it and change all oil and filtres. After 4000 miles,
I never finished my second trip from east coast to west coast and back, the engine got overheated and locked up which got me stuck in the middle of highway.Shortly after this happened
police contacted and requested a tow truck to clear the highway. The peterbilt dealear give me the diag , so i need new engine ( it can't be rebuild).
In conclusion, 3 weeks after picking up the truck, 1.5 weeks were spent in shops for repairs,
thousands of dollars spent on inspecting and fixing different issues.

What do you thing shoould i do in this situations?

My guess is someone drove the truck with no oil in it.
You can try to lawyer up and get your money back from wherever you bought it from.

I know a "used-to-be" one-man-show dealer. He quit a couple years ago because the emission type problems were eating into his profit to much because guys would bring the truck back after a few days and demand he fix it because they "just bought it". I didn't know you could do that but he said there's some kind of group that will revoke your dealers license if you sell junk. Which is the opposite of what I always thought which is there's no lemon law protection for commercial truck purchases. You're considered to be an expert in you're field and should take the appropriate steps to know what you're buying.

I would have got my money back after the shop had to add 6 gallons of oil.

So your mechanic missed the no oil when he inspected it? He also missed all the codes when he hooked up his computer to check the engine?

Oh wait, you didn't actually get any sort of inspection done. You just seen "Oh shinny" and bought it. Well next time I hope you realize you are buying a business asset, and treat it accordingly.

These stories are almost as hard to read as school bus -vs- truck accident stories!

I have no idea what I would do in this situation.

Next time, do your due diligence when buying a truck. You should never have signed on the line for a truck without at the very least getting an oil sample. Let alone having your own mechanic do an inspection.

    --

You: "Open the plug please, I need an oil sample."
    Dealer: "Okay sir."

    *no oil comes out*

    You: "Okay, see you later."

Call a lawyer to sue the dealer and get a new engine installed so you can keep on trucking. Sue for the cost of the new engine.

Been there, done that. Bought a used pickup in my teens from a used car lot. Assumed everything was fine. Get home and found the transmission was about 3L low on ATF. Top it off and a week later I lose all but 1st and reverse. Get that fixed and then next day I lose the torque converter lockup clutch. Learned my lesson early. Should have walked away.
