I have the 760 LTM. Yes, it has some problems but nothing that I can't over come. When you consider what we are expecting from it, I think they do a find job. Sure, I could find the places with a map but this is so much easier. When a new road comes into being it does not update the second the barriers are dropped so there is a place in Indiana where it looks like my truck is flying across open fields. But I adjust and overcome.

All in all, I believe that GPS navigation is the best thing to happen since the wheel was invented.

    (A) Yessir, but that kinda defeats the purpose of paying 4x as much for a "truck" GPS, doesn't it?
    (B) Thanks, I didn't know. That tip is much appreciated. And, I'll try it. However, realize that I grew up before computers and I usually have to get one of my kids (college age) to do that sort of thing for me. :D
    (C) Ditto
    (D) 10-4. I'm still amazed that the power cord only lasted a little over a year. It's not like it's had a hard life. I don't even switch it from one vehicle to another. It stays in the KW, and stays plugged in. So people are just lucky, and then there's people like me.

    You missed this one:

Umm, yeah. There is no help for that one. That's like when it goes aspihet and tells me to get off of I-80 in Nebraska.

One thing I realy like is the up coming rest areas, truck stops or parking. I have that set for quick access on the home screen. Its under "Trucking".

So, all that being said: for my first truckers GPS should I go with TND 720 - GARMIN DESL (latest model) - or - COBRA 8500 ?????? what I want from a GPS is to avoid low structures (under 13'6), instant search for truck parking and other POI (superwalmarts, open rest areas, etc), for it NOT to freeze up should I decide to take an alternate route, and sky view of the roads ahead of me or at the delivery location (with the help of a phone when I get one). And if you know of any other forums where to discuss this, please do post that web address, Thank you!

Also, as a buying tip, you should not buy any truck-specific GPS for 4X the price of the same sized screen non-truck unit of the same brand. (i.e. the comparable car 7" Garmin is $250.) So if you paid $1000 for the 7" Dezl then something is wrong with the seller. In the current market, the truck version of any brand is running about 1.5 times the non-trucking counterpart. Just trying to warn the drivers who may miss-understand that...

Clarification: I have the 5" DEZL, for which I paid almost $400. I looked at a 5" Garmin last week at wallyworld and it was just over $100.

So, maybe it was 3X instead of 4X. It's really immaterial. Considering the absolute bang for the buck, it still falls WAY short.

Oh I was not disagreeing with you on the trucking premium being considerable.

The funny thing about online forum posts is that they "live FOREVER" in the eyes of a Google search. I don't know how many times I've seen someone respond here, for example, to a two-year old post.

So I was just clarifying your "4X" for those readers who stumble in benefit. This is why I said "in the current market" because if someone paid $400 for a 560, then it was a while ago.

So maybe this would be clearer of me:

    A. Walmart current 5" car GPS with similar features to a Dezl-560 = $127 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Garmin-nuvi-2595LMT-5-Portable-GPS/17327939)

    B. Walmart current Dezl-560 with LTM = $264 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Garmin-dezl-560LMT-5.0-GPS-Navigator/15754417)

Wanted to add the latest issue with the DEZL.

It kept covering up the screen with the "trucks are not allowed on this road" popup while I was driving empty up Hwy 3. (North of Bossier City, LA)
Showed 6 bridges posted for 2.3 tons. WRONG!! There were 6 bridges posted for 25 tons.

I guess that I should just put the thing on "car" mode and forget it. As a "car" GPS, it's pretty decent. I just paid WAY too much for a "car" GPS when I bought the DEZL. :biggrin_25510:

well, how long ago did you purchase your DEZL? cause if you bought it in 2011 and it's still working, i might just buy a DEZL and forget about the rand mcnally, since i hear it only lasts aprox 1 or 2 years.

Just got a new Garmin, have had 2 prior to this new one, got the Dez'l 760, and for some reason show about 60 miles in Nebraska on I80 as a weight restricted route, now I know as of in the mid 90's when I first started driving over the road, it wasn't a weight restricted road, been thinking of contacting Garmin about this, but, don't need a GPS ro get from city to city, just makes it nice to get to actual address, if I haven't been there before, plus helps me to know paid miles versus actual miles driven, both other Garmins I had didn't have this problem, not sure why this new one doe's have the problem
