I will be going out with him, as a passenger. We decided to have me go with him so we could cut out most household expenses to pay off his medical bills - we figure with that we should have it all paid in 2 years. I have a few questions though. Anyone else ever gone homeless as we will be? What did you do about an address? We were thinking of a private mailbox, but I don't know if that can be used on things like taxes. Also, apparently, showers are things taken when you have enough credits to do so at a gas station. How about for me? Will he have to save up credits for 2 showers? Can I just go in his shower with him? We have a portable shower system so if I can't shower at gas stations, that's fine, but was hoping to make it slightly easier on myself. Really, I have never been homeless before, so I'm a little nervous as to what that means. Any ideas? It seems very small in the sleeping part of the cab, which is fine, I expected not to bring anymore than a duffel bag's worth of things. I saw this one truck driver's cab online - WOW some of y'all have little apartments in there lol! Lucky you!

Chinatown Thanks this.

There's one other thing I'm a little freaked out about - that whole driving in the winter in Donner's Pass or Denver or other scary horror stories I've heard about on the 'net. Is it really all that bad?

I have a mail box at a ups store and yes good to go for your IRS stuff. -
One woman posted recently she uses a South Dakota PO box. Most states require a physical address for a CDL address, except South Dakota from what she posted.
So many people have posted on here that want to live in the truck to save money and the address is usually the problem. I suggested that everyone pitch in together and rent some fleabag room and use that address. One person can rent the room and then print some leases that have "utilities included" for everyone else that pitches in on the rent. With "utilities included" you wouldn't need utility bills to show the DMV. Don't have to keep anything in the room, but it's still a legal address. I found one place you can buy and the monthly payment is only $122.40 monthly. Pick a state with no personal income taxes.
@morpheus is that a good idea or not?
Here's the type of fleabag place I'm suggesting:
This one's for sale, but you could rent something similar and a dozen drivers could use it as a physical address. Could still use a PO Box or UPS Store for mail so your mail would be safe until you picked it up.

If you chose Las Vegas,Nevada for a physical address then you wouldn't have to pay personal income taxes. Take time off there and still live in the truck since you probably wouldn't want to stay in the "fleabag" rental room. Some casino's have truck parking, plus the truck stops. "The Orleans" doesn't mind if truckers park there as long as they park correctly and don't leave a mess when they leave.
