I'm a new driver currently running OTR. I'm enjoying the experience so far and happily paying my dues, but I know that this isn't what I want to do forever and once I've got my first year in I'd like to start setting my own terms.

My ideal job would have me home weekly and would come with a paycheck of $45k+. I understand that this would be desirable to a lot of drivers and I'm likely to be at the end of the line, but you definitely miss 100% of the shots you don't take, right?

My question is: exactly what kinds of jobs should I be looking at, and with what companies (particularly in the Denver area)?

Probably food service companies or tanker companies.
With both this type of companies, you should be home weekly or even daily and will make over $45K annually.
    Check Careerbuilder website.

Best of luck.. but the setting your own terms died years ago.. With the economy being what it is.. I would go food service or motor freight company.. I know people that made a good living out of Denver running KC and back or El Paso and back... they were home quite a bit.. Don't know if Swift and the other majors have killed those yet..

Get yourself a dedicated run to get you home or go LTL. There are a ton of decent jobs around Denver. Check indeed.com or even craigslist.

Look for a local driving job that pay hourly rather then by the mile.At least then when you're sitting at a dock you're getting paid. You can make a nice living even if only 40 hrs a week. But local companies run you more then that but just saying.Plus you'll be home every day.You may have an occasional overnight run.But you'll make alot more then you are now even a yr from now otr, you.ll still make more hourly.
