I have an 08 Pete 389 w/550 an ISX. How much is involved? I really miss having one..
Are these tied into the ecm or are they plug and play? And I imagine I would have to call Pete/Cummins to get a new elbow with the threaded reciver.
Anyone ever done it and what time frame am I looking at? As in is it a weekend job or should I plan for a couple days.
Aftermarket Pyrometer.. Is it possible?

I have a 08 389 and I put a manual pyrometer from isspro just like the older trucks in mine. As far as I know a factory pyrometer is no longer an option after they switched to the smart guages. You will need an exhaust elbow with the threads in it no matter what you decide to install.
boxcarmonument Thanks this. -
Is there a reason you can't tap into the manifold?

Why spend $$$ on a new elbow?
1) Remove elbow.
2) Find a nut of proper size & thread to hold sensor.
3) Drill hole in elbow larger than the hole in the nut but smaller than the nut.
4) Weld nut onto elbow
5) Install elbow.
Yeah, I'm a cheap SOB...work too hard for my money to spend it unnecessarily.puncher Thanks this. -
Boxcar,
I have an 07 379 with a factory pyrometer. It is not tied in with the ECM. I also have the Road Relay IV in my dash and it monitors most engine functions but the exhaust temp is not monitored by the RR. The factory places the bung/probe after the turbo. Were it me, I would buy a bung and drill a hole rather than buying that pipe. But if you have to get a welder to do it...
If you have room for a large pyrometer, I saw one on eBay the other day. -
