    Hello,

    04 Columbia- Det 14l

I had my truck sitting for about a month as I was out of the country. Upon coming back, my batteries were- so they were replaced, but now I also have another problem.

On my recent trip from ca-nj, every morning waking up to start my truck, I find that I have lost my air pressure down to about 60psi and it dosent want to build up pressure. I can raise up the RPM's but that dosent help either. The only way to build up air is to start driving it and about 5 or so minutes of driving- pressure is all the way up and everything is working properly! I'm thinking the air governor might need to be replaced but can that also be the cause of loss of air in mere 7-8 hours?

    Thank for the help guys!

You most likely have an unloader valve hanging and passing some air when the air compressor is cold and when compressor warms up it functions normal. Install an unloader kit and see if that cures the problem.

If it's not building up at his to be leaking someplace. Can you locate the leak? f the governor was shot I can't figure out why it would only build up at higway speed.

I got home few hours ago- tomorrow in day light, Im gonna play around to locate the leak. Yeah, the highway speed has me puzzled- but after that it works and behaves normal.

Bender I will have to look into that as well.

A leaking unloader will leak into the air compressor intake side so remove the intake hose and listen closely.

The air compressor won't pump air with one of the unloader valves hung open.

On the highway the engine is loaded so it builds boost if the comp gets its air from the intake manifold it is getting pressure to the unloaders. That may affect a stuck unloader [ temp press ] just saying. But there is a check valve between the tank and the comp so it shouldnt leak down through the comp!!

Although I have installed many check valves on the wet tank, I don't recall seeing them factory installed.
The air that would be leaking back through the compressor would be coming from the secondary tank and back through the signal line to the air governor then onto the unloader valves.

Started it this morning and the psi guages went up just fine. Turned off the engine and tried to listen for leaks- didnt have to go far, it was the air regulator/governor. Took off the lil plastic piece on the side and the nut behind behind it was gushing out air.

Will replace it and hopefully that will cure the problem.
