I noticed some oil being purged from my air dryer and some oil seeping around the line that's attached to the head. The discharge line that runs to the tanks isn't blowing any oil at all when I unhook it from the compressor while running. What's going on here?

pull the line off and see if its oily inside . maybe you have oil landing there from elsewhere. that line should not be leaking anything, even if it is pumping some oil.

Might be the original compressor on million mile 3406e so it could be dying. I guess the line plumbed from the head going to the compressor is simply an oil supply to the pump?

Only one oil supply line t on comp. Look under comp, that 1/4 inch line is it. Oil in the intake of comp is normal and discharge also, it just depends on how much there is that will tell you if it is time to replace.

What's the purpose of the line connected to head (where the oil is seeping)?

I got 2 cats with that same setup and both of mine look like that also, I however did put new o-rings on the fittings to stop the oil from leaking and making a mess.

That line is the taking fresh air from the engine to the compressor. I think what is happening is when the engine is off a little bit of oil is coming back down from the top of compressor and coming down the lines. As long as it's not excessive I would not worry about it both of my engines look like that too till I replaced the o-rings

oh,yeah, thats the intake. i was thinking pressure line. i'd pull both lines and look inside them. very easy to do. if the output hose is clean i'd not worry about the compressor. tuflow's are pretty much bullet proof.
