Just as I thought, this is typical Volvo/dealership robbery. As I said before, $125 at the dealer for my truck's coalescing air filter dryer # 21620181
This is a 2015 VNL780 with a D13. Do your homework as your truck could be spec'd differently.

I finally got around to cross referencing some filters:

    Wix WS10129 $46.37
    Napa Gold (Wix) 220129 $50.97
    Baldwin BA5379 $55.04
    Donaldson P951413 $51.72

So, earlier someone asked my what my gut feeling was. My gut feeling, as I suspected, is that dealers are thieves.

I’ve yet to dive into my 97 International pole barn queen, and know this is one more item that needs to be addressed.

What goes bad on the dryer that the whole unit needs to be replaced?

I built boats and worked around spraying resins for years so familiar with importance of keeping moisture out of air supplies.

No doubt about that but sometimes you have no choice in the matter and have to deal with thieves...

just change cartridge yearly especially if your in a humid environment all the time, purge valve every couple years and heater element every couple years. I change air governor every 2 years. Parts are fairly cheap and easy to do and keeps air system happy which in turn keeps billy bobs road service at bay.

On your truck I couldn't say but Jason has some pretty good advice there. On emissions trucks keeping the air clean and dry is a lot more important. On mine, for instance, the DEF doser is controlled by air and very sensitive to proper pressure. Moisture will make the solenoids stick, then your truck won't regen and all hell breaks loose. Automatic tranny is air controlled as well. These newer trucks are just a lot more picky about it.

    TallJoe and tommymonza Thank this.
