My air dryer at idle is going off about every 30 seconds. It seems like it's going off faster when I go down the road.
I don't think there's a leak the gauges are holding pressure unless the leak is in the signal line. Possibly my unloaders are bad?
I'm going to change the governor now but if that does not solve the problem is it safe for me to run the truck a few days like that?

When mine did that, it was the spitter valve gone bad. I ran it till it seeped constantly, had to by pass dryer, till I replaced the whole thing. AD9s are less than $200 at Fleetpride comes with new brackets Last one I had with a weak spitter valve, I could take a screwdriver stick it in and push the valve up, hold it for a few seconds, till it stayed. You can try that, if in a jam. But be prepared to bypass or change the spitter, or whole dryer, if it starts leaking constantly. Not worth rebuilding or just replacing spitter. PITA anyways. I tried to replace o rings on old one. Mine was different, couldn’t get them out easily. But sometimes you can take the spitter off and clean the o rings, I guess. Didn’t work for me. Easier to just swap the whole thing out, and forget it for a few years. If that’s the problem. Gauges holding steady, shouldn’t have a leak. The new ones sound funny, they spit out for a longer time, at first. Sounds like something’s wrong, But it’s normal. After a while they sound normal. Just a heads up, if you change the dryer.

Final Drive, Dino soar and 650cat425 Thank this. -
Could be any of several things. I’ve had a leaky governor gasket, unloader valve and a cracked dryer housing do that.

If its not the valve it could be a very small leak getting around the main body “hat” and housing o-ring. Sometimes tapping on the valve may knock the debris loose from it. I know on my old AD-2 it has a similar valve as the AD-9 and it sticks a lot for some reason. Tap tap and goes back to normal for awhile.

Well here's a couple of things.
First I got under the truck and drain the wet tank and it had a colossal amount of water in it. I do drain my tanks but it probably has been awhile since I've drain that one.
The second thing is that I put another new governor on it and it did the same thing. So I took the signal line off at the governor and it has constant pressure does not stop at all.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but that means that either there's a leak somewhere between the wet tank and whatever the wet tank supplies, or the unloader valves are not working.
What if I bought fittings and I put an air gauge between the governor and the supply line?
Wouldn't that show me whether there's an air leak or whether the unloader valves are not working at the cut out pressure?Rideandrepair and stillwurkin Thank this. -

Quit beating around the bush and change it..Rideandrepair and truckguy391 Thank this. -

Changed my air dryer unit and mine stopped popping off every 25 sec.
stillwurkin and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
I have a friend that gave me excellent advice to diagnose what was happening and it ends up that it was the check valve on the air dryer.
Luckily I'm still under warranty so they will have a new air dryer for me tomorrow and everything will be all set.stillwurkin and Rideandrepair Thank this.
