I load and unload in very dusty conditions. I am wondering if there is any way to add a pre-filter to extend my air filter life. I would only need it when loading (idle) and unloading (1,200rpm on PTO).

It is a 2004 Western Star with the dual air filters. Is there anything that I can slip over the air cleaner when its really dusty?

fleet air filters makes a prefilter that is like a slip cover that you put on your vortox or donaldson air cleaners and they were made for just this case... dusty sites or logging and dump trucks to name a few i think they were very reasonable on price to

Well yes dummy! It's the new environmentally friendly way to truck. Then the only pre-filter you need is a plastic bag over your head.:biggrin_25525::biggrin_2559:

I think by the time I got a load blown off with my bicycle-blower, I'd have a way bigger carbon footprint than any idling truck. Just think how many trips I'd have to make to the buffet before I got the job done! I guess you could retrofit me with a post-filter, that might help. We could call it a BPF-Buffet Particulate Filter.:biggrin_2559:

during wheat and corn harvest, I slip one leg from a pair of panty hose over the top of my filters.
