Im currently broke down in Minnesota and Ive lost nearly all air pressure due to the air pump purging air. Breakdown says the lines are frozen, which sounds right since its about 5 deg now. I dont have enough alcohol that would make a difference. Is there anything I can do to get this thing to stop purging air? Its coming from a little brass valve on the top of the air pump. Thanks and if anyones running by exit 69 WB off I495(St.Paul), I could sure use some help. Thanks!

**been waiting on service truck for 3 hours**

That sounds like a bleed valve.
Can you pull on the stem and see if you can purge out the ice/dirt?

you've got a blockage somewhere between the compressor and the dryer. only way to clear it is alcohol or heat. pull the line off and pour alcohol down it, a good bit of it!

before I head into weather like that I always pull a line and douse it in alcohol.

You have anything else that doesn't freeze? some engine coolant mabey?

Mine did this last year, luckily I was just leaving the farm. Safety pop off valve on the back of the compressor kept popping at like 75psi, got the truck in the shop and thawed everything out and it still kept doing it. Ended up replacing the pop off and all was good, I should say mine was on a cummins though, not sure how the system is on a detroit.

Ugh! What a fun day this was! After a tow to the shop, a few hours thawing with a bullet heater, and 1 lost day, the truck is back to normal. Its supposed to get to -15 tonight, so I will see if everything is indeed, back to normal. Im spending the night in the shops driveway!
BTW, before the tow to the shop, the mech tried alcohol down the line coming directly off the pump. No dice.
There were alot of trucks in that shop for frozen air lines, frozen batteries, or clogged fuel filters.

remember to take lots of antifreeze in the morning and check her out good before you leave I found thawing one thing in a shop often froze other things because ice/snow melting inside and freezing outside

I'd rain all your air tanks, put more alcohol down that same line he did then pour a bunch into the trailer lines and hook them back to the trailer.

if you have a fuel filter heater then make sure it's on

I'm guessing that it is your truck? is it also your trailer? if it is then drain all the water out of the system when you get somewhere warm and put a new air dryer on. Should never have to worry about freezing up. with a new dryer there should be no water getting in the system, if you keep the lines to the trailer together and pluged when unhooked. Keep some alcahol with you but dont use it if you don't have to, the lines and valves on everything will thank you

true, alcohol is hard on the seals. I say to douse it only beause you obviously have water in your system now
