Freightliner can tell you everything specific to your truck, with a diagram and everything ( assuming as my 91 FLB had diagrams) by the vin number

It could have any type or air start system, it depends on how it was spec'd new. I used to work on those trucks. Ingersol-rand was the most popular and probably it, but they had a few other brands that they tried on some trucks. A dealer can get you the parts by VIN.

The best thing you can do is convert it to electric start. Air starters work good when they work, but have more problems than electric starts. They're harder to get parts on the road and it's really harder finding a mechanic that can fix them without wasting your money guessing and throwing parts at it.

The vin will get you any thing you need. The wedge brakes are a pain.

Air start is good for light weight. Ya only need one battery.

I'm shocked that CF still spec'ed wedgies in '96.

air starters are rare in Europe and when it fails, dealers put electric, becouse it is too many days to wait for parts.

You also need a huge air tank on the frame rail. We have 3 truck with air starters, all 97 Western Stars with Ingersol Rands. They sound AWESOME and turn the engine over better than any electric starter you'll ever have plus you need almost zero battery power to start your truck since you can bypass the electric solenoid.

We keep a rebuilt spare on our shelf in case we were to have any issues with one. They normally cost $1000 to rebuild here (Toronto, Canada) and about a week to get the parts in for them.

If you run out of air before the truck starts, it is going to be a long day
