So i bought one of those air hoses u buy at the truck stops. Whenever i use it to air up my tires it takes me almost a couple hours. Does anyone know a trick for using these? I always hook it up to the emergency(red) line. I tried hooking it up to the service(blue) line once but didnt seem to get any air. Am I supposed to use the blue line? It only seems to put out air once the compressor kicks in but that takes forever. Just aired my tires up in the rain. Ive noticed that no other truckers seem to check their air just make sure they're not flat but I check mine and when they're down to 100 from 110 thats almost 10%. I used to work im a tire shop for small cars and trucks and I know that 10% air loss can make a big impact in wear and ride.

You do know that air pressure fluxuates with temperature right? You will have differant pressures throughout the day.

you can increase the air pressure at the governor but only if you know what your doing. it does take a while. I wait until I hear the air dryer pop off. then start airing up a tire. after a short time you will have to let the compressor catch up. to do the next tire. one way is to bleed some air out of the hose until compressor kicks in.

In layman's terms, the blue line operates your trailer brakes. The red fills up your trailer tanks, bags, etc. Use the red line. And you're better off using a hose attached to a compressor at a shop (if available). The glad hand hose is more for when you have no other option. It takes longer but will get the job done. Also, make sure you don't have a bunch of water in your trucks air tanks. That will slow it down too.

true that. the only time I check pressure is at the start of day when tires are ambient temp.

    chris887 Thanks this.

Yes i know air fluxuates i have only been checking them about once a week when i do my 34 hr resets. I tried the first time to air up the tires on my pretrip, that was a mistake. It did take a couple hours.

I've never had it take that long to put air in all my tires with my hose kit.

Yes really. I have NEVER seen another driver check their tires EVER. My trainer only checked hia with one of those tire thumper things. I check them every day by kicking them or with a hammer to make sure they're not real low but whenever i check them woth my gauge they've only ever gone down about ten pounds never had a problem but I like to air them up about once a week at least. You know I dont think Ive ever even seen another driver check anything unless theyre having some kind of issue. I go over my truck every day.
