I just got the truck but it has an apu on it. when i turn on the heater function at the user contol board, nothing happens, no sound, no blower from heater kicks on, nothing. Any ideas on where to start and how to get heat from this thing.
if i understand it correctly, there is a fuel line coming from the fuel tank and it leads to a fuel pump and filter assembly. then it goes to the heater. the power comes from the user control board or the battery directly? or is it from the the main contol board assembly under the bunk.
usually i would start with troubleshooting the power issue since im not getting the usual sequence of start up blower action.
so questions
1) how does the bunk heater sequence usually work? does the blower come on first regardless of the condition of the screen and glow plug?
2) if the blower wont come on, whats my troubleshooting steps in order to get figured out whats causing it.
3) how much and how hard to install if i just buy a brand new bunk heater? because i dont have a shop and putting truck out of service could for any reason could lose me my contract.
4) is there a rule of some sort against posting and linking youtube videos of my situations so guys can see for themselves what my setup is when i ask for tech support like this?
Thanks so much guys

If its the first time your trying to run it it could take several starting cycles for it to actually fire up. Once you set the control to heat within a minute or so you should be able to hear a sort of slow click...click...click type sound which would be the fuel pump for the heater pumping the fuel. Other than the sound of the fuel pump the heater is pretty quiet until it starts to fire.
1) The blower does come on first however it spins really slowly till the heater start to fire up then it speeds up.
2) I would check fuses for it, if you have a thermal king APU there will be in a black box which is has the main control board for the APU and heater its probably under the bunk or in the side box somewhere. I can't recall what fuses would be for the heater right now but I could check tomorrow if you do in fact have a thermal king unit.
3)With the price of these little heaters it will probably be much cheaper to fix what you have.
4)I don't know of any rules against it but I'm fairly new here.
Edit: just re-read the title and saw you do have a thermal king APU :smt101Last edited: Nov 13, 2013
CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
There is a good chance the ecu on the espar unit is locked out, meaning that the ecu wont allow the heater to come on because of multiple failed start ups. May need to go to a shop with edith software and get the ecu unlocked, and troubleshot
Cummimgs Trucking LLC and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
They are designed not to blow cold air starting up. It might take 5 minutes to heat up before it's fully operational and blowing. If you never used one turn it on and wait.
Just the opposite shutting down. It will continue to blow to cool the unit down and then shut off.
The igniter has a limited life span and needs changed if you have problems. That's the most common problem of failed starts.
A picture of your controls would speak a thousand words.
Here's a factory pdf, I'm still trying to find the manual. I remember there is one somewhere. These are just brochures. The second one explains the controls if you have that controller.

The service portal now requires registration. You can create an account if you want to get access to repair info. They use to have a manual.

It can be 50/50. That's why I asked for a picture. There is like 6 or 7 different control heads. -
ok ill try to do a picture of the only controls i see anywhere. I have had a new trtuck with a webasto heater in it and so i know the controls for it looked like a heat knob and on and off switch. the lighting in this sleeper is so bad i cant get it to come out until probably tomorrow during daylight. but the only control is the thermo king black digital control box with green backlit display. has buttons along bottom from left to right of on/off, mode, up arrow, down arrow, fan, and apu on/off.
i understood it worked like a digital thermostat and i just select heat and adjust to my desired set temp and the heatrer would come on and off as ncessary to keep the temp near where i set it. but it can stay on heat all night and i get nothing.. -
That click...click....click noise the fuel pump makes is driving me crazy. I can not sleep with that clicking sound. Any ideas how to quiet it down? I put a piece of plywood between the bottom of the bunk and the frame the heater is in, but it didn't help much at all. -
Try sleeping your head pointing away from a fuel pump.. That what I was told not install that pump below my head when I bought a heater.

first of all - pull air tronic fault codes.
I use timer from air tronic, it shows codes!
Other way - I have Mercedes Star Diagnose with probe cabel and It reads Webasto and Ebershpaher codes. -
Hey just checking if I can post here
