And who knows maybe I was given the wrong info... But I was able to register and insure in Alberta with my BC license and address, but I did tell them I have an apartment in Alberta... Dunno

Thanks for the details. I don't know man. I've dropped resumes pretty much everywhere. I mean, if I don't hear from any of them, I'm going with 1st Rate. Like you said, I wanna get my foot in and test the waters, see what can be had. If this is one of the easiest gigs on an oil patch then I think that's the best place for me to start. Experience the new culture, moving away from home and all. It's I guess going to be a good thing if my job turns out to be easy going. Not that I'm looking for easy but why not if its going to be that way. I'll write more once I get home lol million and one thoughts going on in my head.

I totally get the Class 1 retest coming from AB to BC... I think they do that for guys who haven't experienced the white-knuckle ride down the "Smasher" into Hope in winter time. Yea, the Okanagan is awesome... too bad there's no money/work around. I'm interviewing in GP on the 23rd, then gonna make my way towards Red Deer & get my Resume out in-person.

Not what the AB Registry guy told me... this stuff gets confusing - you think you're "covered" but then find out you're not. Neighboring provinces and it's a cluster!@#$ it's not it's like Mexico vs. USA

Keep your bc plates, cost less for photo radar tickets...ask me how I know ! LoL

i needed an alberta address to reg my truck there, kept my bc licence because my primary addy is still in bc.

insurance was pretty much the same for icbc or ab private.

my truck stays in ab, I just fly to-from bc when I get time off.

yea, I found this by accident doing a google search yesterday. I figured the AB registry guy knew what he was talking about, guess I figured wrong! Would they have any way of knowing how long a BC vehicle is in AB though? probably not unless you got photo radar or something similar with a time stamp.

Don't be taking million dollar chances to save a couple bucks. Injury accidents get into the millions these days.

Its not really about saving a couple of $$$, more a case of being told I can't register & insure my truck in AB... without an AB address. I plan on staying at an extended stay motel, so not sure how to even keep my truck properly insured while in AB.

I was thinking the same thing as Pinner. About the time there is a major insurance loss there's a good chance they will investigate to see if there is any way they can wiggle out of paying. Best case that leaves you paying out a loan on a $70, 000 totalled off vehicle. Worst case lawsuit.
