Oh, well, in that case hopefully Sarabeara will be along shortly, but in the meantime you'd do well to review her posts. Be nice to her, she can definitely teach you a thing or six.

LOL! Personal trainers?! Try working infield and doing 10 loads a day - that will put you in shape... which is why I like longer hauls. But seriously, try lugging around those hoses all day, in and out of your truck. I have a deep respect for guys and gals that do.... i'm too old, and i'm too comfy in my own long haul truck. :D

The question depends on if you're hauling infield or the longer hauls.
I don't recommend (newer) Peterbilts for infield simply because of the DEF issues. Even idling them at 1100RPM had them in the shop at least 10 days out of the month. Definitely better for the longer hauls. We drove them up to the Yukon Super B last year - and my 2014 Peterbilt (written off now) handled it well. 525 HP with 2050 torque. 46 rears, 388 model, manual Eaton transmission. Our 2013 PB 389 only has super 40's and is currently infield where it seems comfortable with only a 500ISX. 1850 Torque with again manual 18spd Eaton. This unit also hauled Super B's last year up to the Yukon - pretty slow going on some of those monster hills, but for Super Slow with those specs. Good on fuel though.
We've owned a 2007 Western Star 4900 FA with a monstrosity 82" bunk! Went from Conacher to Valleyview. Again, with the axles only at 3:58 - it could be slow going. Had the stupid Twins, but, it never let me down. Now also bought a 2013 Volvo, which is spec'd at 3:91, 550HP with a D16, Manual 18 speed Eaton, 46 rears. Awesome fuel mileage over the Peterbilts on the highway hands down, but dont want to put it infield because - well, its kinda cheap plastic. And as mentioned above... I'm too old for any infield...
I agree with the advice you've been given. Anyone that has been an operator has put in their time with a company. PB (and I don't mean Peterbilt) as in Prairie Boy has a world of advice on just about anything!
I think regardless if I go infield or highway though, I try to keep 46's on the rear with a 3:91 18 speed manual. That way, i have some flexibility as to what it hauls. My 2 cents.

    bartthefart Thanks this.

Just checking. :) Some guys tell you that they drove for this guy, and that guy, and this company etc etc etc. The years of experience total 58 years but they're only 35 years old. LOL
