Anyone ever been through orientation at the Swift terminal in Albuquerque NM?

What do they have you do for the physical and what is covered the 2nd two days of orientation?

I also had a question about what i needed to bring for my medical stuff. I'm diabetic and have sleep apnea, both are total under control. what should i bring with me showing this?

When you say for orientation, I would assume you have a CDL, right? If so you have a medical card so no physical. However the very first thing, first day will be your whiz quiz. You won't be coded, get your driver number, until the results are in and Phoenix assigns you a driver number. Mostly you will be wasting time in between safety videos and a log class and it will take about 3 days. If you have experience, you will get a road test to determine if you will be assigned a truck immediately or go out with a mentor for up to 150 hours driving time. If you are a student with no OTR experience or your experience is over two years ago you will be going out with a mentor for 240 hours regardless how many weeks that takes.

As long as your diabetes is controlled orally, not by injection, you are okay. Bring a detailed letter from your doctor regarding the diabetes and sleep apnea. Is your CPAP 12volt or 110vac? If it's 110vac you will need to supply an inverter, up to 375 watt, that the Swift shop will install in your truck when it is assigned. If you go with a mentor, the mentor will have to supply an inverter for installation in his truck.

    Hope this helps,
    Frank

I have my CDL and medical card but its older then 90 days old so i figured they'd have me do the physical again. The diabetic stuff is a pill, no injections.

So i just need a letter from my Dr. saying that both conditions are well controlled and there is no danger with me going OTR? That should be easy enough.

My CPAP is 110V, I can get a 12v cord but why do that when the only way your allowed an inverter in a Swift truck is if you have to have it for your CPAP. So id rather buy the inverter than the 12v cord.

Well I started orientation today and thought I'd let whoever wants some info about how they do it in ABQ know what went on.

Today we started at 8am there are only 2 of us. There were 5 scheduled but 3 didn't show. We filled out some paper work, tax stuff, acknowled swift rules, and consented to background checks. That took about 30-45min. After that Fran gives you 2 sheet of paper one is directions to consentra (drug test / physical place) and the other you give to them so you don't have to pay for it. It took about 2 hours most of which is waiting but it went by pretty quick. After that you take the sealed envelope back to Fran and she looks it over. if everything is good that's the end of day 1.

Day 2. Starts at 8am they start with a history of swift, Insurance information, logbook class, lunch, safety video shows pictures of bunch of dead bodies from accidents involving trucks, then a defensive driving video, then a video on how to report an accident, about an hour doing Qualcomm training then more safety training. We finishes up about 4:15.

Fran and Dave who have been running orientation at the Albuquerque are really cool too. They make it feel more personal then you would think a huge company like swift would be.

Day three 8am. Safety meeting with Chirs then sign a little paperwork and that's it 10:15am. I'm at home waiting for a phone call with my drivers # and find out when I'm gonna meet up with my mentor. Hopefully I get the one that's coming in tomorrow.
