I have a opportunity to buy a used set of Alcoas for my freightliner which is 2005 columbia, the wheels also are coming from a FL also but a little newer, my question is what the different between Hub Piloted vs Stud piloted? just want to make sure these will fit properly, thanks

really I cant say what is better: hub ore stud piloting? usually rims are hub piloted. I have all alcoa on my freightliner, 22.5x8.5" rims. I've just got 01 volvo cabover and I wanna get a pair of alcoa rims for steers.
Ok, sometimes you have to change lugs with longer becouse alloy wheels are thikcer. -
I believe Hub piloting is when the center of the wheel hub has ears or castings that hold the wheel center while in motion, Stud piloting is usually on older trucks with the beveled lug nuts (no lock rings and the stud is thick) ie the studs hold the wheel center. here is an example the left is a hub pilot nut and the right is a hub pilot nut. View attachment 57061 if your lug nut has a washer (secure washer) then it is hub piloted Unless your truck is special newer rims will fit on your year truck, They still make Stud pilot Alum Rims so make sure they are right nomatter the year made.

Hub pilot is the ONLY way to go. The hub pilot have a flat surface around the stud holes. Stud pilot (Buds) have a beveled stud hole in the rim. Also there are 8 hole hub pilots out there, so make sure your rim fits your truck.
