This is a subject not often spoken about or at least not on this forum.

First, I will say right off the bat I am not talking about some poor alcoholic and/or heavy drinkers, nor am I talking at all about any P.O.S. who drinks and drives period, much less in a 40 ton wrecking ball on wheels.

OK, most people drink alcohol lightly to one degree or another. A beer or two before dinner or a glass or two of wine, and so forth.

What do most healthy and responsible truckers do? For example, aviators have a rule of 8 hours minimum between any alcohol and getting on the plane and God help you, you better not have a BAC of any consequence.

This coming from someone who's home every night: save it for a 36 hour (34 south of the border) reset. Best yet, do it on home time only. The
BAC limit here in Canada is 0.02, but of course, 0.00 is best.

    In short, home time only.

Go to work at McDonalds or somewhere else.

Better off to wait it out at home or motel.

    Think----
What happens if you have had a couple of drinks and have to move the truck for some unknown reason while under the influence?

There is a 4 hour time limit from the drinking to being in a cmv.

"40 ton wrecking ball on wheels"

Writing tag lines for movies? That gruff voice... one man... one truck...not just any truck... it's a 40 ton wrecking ball on wheels... hellbent to deliver the load, no matter what the cops say.... they took his freedom, they took his girl... but they can't take his BEER... It's "The .08 Trucker"... coming to a theater near you this summer.

Do a search, there's several threads on this.

I did do a search. No, there is not. Or, if there is, it is so ancient that the TruckerReport search engine buried it way back since I went through 7 pages of search under the headings beer and alcohol. All I found were people seemingly looking for reassurance that they would not fail their pee tests. If you wanted to be even slightly helpful you could possible have provided a link to the thread. Key word in that sentence: wanted

Ironically, it seems you feel the whole thread is a waste of your time, yet you responded to it and spent more energy mocking my original post than you would have with an honest answer to the original question. But, I suppose I could have used the term 36,363 KG lump of death dealing metal and plastic.

But, maybe, you were just trying to be funny so I should give the benefit of the doubt.

I am thinking which is why I asked a question on a forum that is supposed to help drivers.

Wait it out at home or a motel?! Wait what out? Someone drinks a beer with dinner and goes to sleep for the night.

What do you think I am suggesting: to drink alcohol, then kick the tires, light the fires and drive some more?!

I asked because there are currently several million truck drivers, less than 10% of them statistically are tee totallers and yet very few are foolish enough to drive under the influence.

    Work at McDonalds? Really?

I asked what responsible truckers did in an attempt to learn from their experience not to have some derisive comment implying that I ought to work at a fast food joint.

But you do make a point about the moving of the truck so at least that helps somewhat.

What I find interesting, and now I see why it really is not on this forum in any meaningful way, is that the very subject is near taboo bringing down ridicule and judgement despite my best efforts to qualify my question as in no way whatsoever drinking and driving period.

OP,I will try to answer your question. My answer to this is,when on the road,no alcoholic drinks, period,WITH one exception.,if I have been on the road for awhile, for me I HAVE to get out of the truck right around the 5 wk mark, and if it works out with a 34 hr re-start,I will get a motel room for a couple nights, and, walaa, out of truck, and a TALL 12 pk will be there with me the first night....-Hopefully a little bit more,but.....:biggrin_25525:

See below... no need for incessant diatribe on the matter, although I certainly do respect your eloquence and grammar.

I was being funny, get over it. Your tag line was very humorous.

That said, there's a very recent thread on the topic, perhaps your searching skills need improvement:

    And here's another, also recent:

hmmm I am confused...:mconfused:...we dont EVER drink when we are on the road...thats what being a PROFESSIONAL is all about....even if we are laid over, UNLESS WE GET A MOTEL early in the day and are off til late the next day....we dont want someone to get the wrong impression of us taking alcohol back to the truck...how do they know we are off duty?? It doesnt look right...I know, what we do on OFF DUTY time is our business...HOWEVER we dont want to send the wrong message....99% of the time, even if we get a room, we still save our drinkin, til we go home for extended time off!!!!
