I'm glad you aint driving a truck or other vehicle on my insurance.
More like 10+ would be better.

4 hrs is the FMCSA standard, common sense may call for more.
Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
I didn't know that their suggestion was so low.
There is no way that some one whose been drinking heavily and then waits a mere 4 hrs
is going to be under .04.
If you drank 2 with a steak supper...... sure I can see 4 hrs would have you well under .04.
I always used 10 hrs bottle to throttle as the minimum standard for me.Rollover the Original and IH Truck Guy Thank this. -
I agree completely. The old standard for me, before I was driving, was 8 hours - that was our rule in the AF - no alcohol 8 hours prior to drawing a weapon or performing as aircrew. I used that standard after getting out - just made sense, no matter what job I was doing.
10 hours with a big truck makes perfect sense - -
Alcohol and the truck scare me to death. If you feel like you need a drink after your day maybe you should look for something else to do. When you are all by yourself there is nobody else to stop you from performing your job when you are intoxicated, playing with DOT time limits and company regulations is a slipper slope as far as I'm concerned. It shouldn't be done, well as far as I'm concerned. Do what you will, but please think of the others that you are sharing the road with first.

Some people drink to get drunk, others to re-lax. Each person is different. Some can drink a couple over a hour and a half with a meal and function with no problem. A heavy guy will burn off a drink an hour. Some people think if you drink a beer, you are totally wasted. A lot of drivers drink (from my observations over the years). But most "put 'er to bed" afterwards and are good to go the next day. Yes, I've seen truck drivers getting busted for DUI, one in Kingman last year at 11am on a city street. (bad driver). The best advice ? Wait until you're off duty and away from the truck, as in motel or your house.

Just because your a truck driver doesnt mean that you have to quit drinking. Just dont drive over 0.02 and you will be fine. I hate waking up and driving with hangovers ughhhh thats terrible.

DOT Interpretations: (Yes, I went and got the big book)

lol..I just heard it was illegal to have alcohol in the cab. Doesnt really matter to me, cause when I drink, I wanna ride and theres no one in the big truck to drive so I drink at home.

Never understood the need to drink or smoke or do drugs for that matter. Why waste all that time, money, and ruin your heath? Especially when you have a safety sensitive job.
