I was shown a fleetguard filter removed from an ISX last week that we are overhauling. The center o ring has been completely redesigned and is now a grommet style similar to what everyone else is using. Our entire dealer network switched over to Baldwin filters a couple of years ago, so we haven't seen the FG filters in a long time.
Grin'in KW Thanks this. -
I wondered if that Filter would work.(7745xd)
It looks the same as the 7746xd only 2 to 4 inches longer.
I put a 7746xd wix filter on my ISX this weekend and it works fine.
The 7745xd was $90 and the 7746xd was $70 dollars. -
My episode with the 9080 is a little different from the o-ring thing. Just last week I broke a fan belt that consequently took out the fan. I got all that fixed up but when I got back on the road my "check engine" light was going on (and off) and oil pressure was running about 25#. When I got home that night I changed oil and filter (LF-9080). Anyway, short of it is that I HAD TO take my truck to see the diesel mechanic. They did "this and that" and found part of the oil filter material in the oil.....about the size of an eraser head. Cummins says I need to REBUILD MY MOTOR! Won't a flush of some kind work? I cannot afford this kind of price tag! I would appreciate any and all advice...........Thanks.

One of the many reasons I ditched FG for anything years ago. I have been solidly on Donaldson filters for quite a while.

I thank you for replying so quickly, Trucker!!

I can't speak to the rebuild or not for you, but as another independent small o/o I can certainly sympathize. Don't you just love the "all or nothing" approach. It's real easy for them to say rebuild, they aren't paying the bill. I would do, as you have done here, seek out 2nd opinions. You'd sure think you could flush it somehow. And as long as it didn't run too long on low oil pressure, I can't imagine there was damage done to warrant a total rebuild. Anyhow, good luck.Grin'in KW Thanks this.

Thanks LowMax. There's no metal in the oil. In fact, you would never know there was anything wrong except the gauges telling me so. The mechanics put a mechanical gauge on it that verified the low oil pressure. The fiberous material they found in the bottom of the oil pick-up and one cooling jet looks like filter material. On Monday (tomorrow) we are going to "pig it" which means to force oil through the system with an external pump and put it back together and run it if all goes well.......... Shall we pray.

I would call the filter manufacture, tell them what was found and ask them for some help or advice.
MJ1657 and Grin'in KW Thank this. -
Heavyd- Yep. We have done that and are waiting for a reply.
