When your driving, whether it is on a city street, service road, or even a highway. You must remember that your not only sharing these roads with another passenger car (truck) you also have to remember that your share the road with "Big Truck" aka 80K lbs missiles: or sometimes even heaver.
The wrong decision you make, in that split second, could change your life or the life of others including "Truck Drivers" for the rest of your, (others our life). You could end up killing someone, or even yourself or the "Big Truck Driver"
Why you ask, do I bring this up. Well today heading North on SH 67 through Duncanville TX, exiting to the ramp for I-20 west, a small car (red Neon) decided to "STOP" in the middle of the ramp. This happened because he/she got off the wrong ramp, instead of heading (I assume) east on I-20.
As I was exiting SH-67 north I was coming quick on the car, and I had only seconds to make a decision, which was hit my breaks and hit them hard. If they did not do what they did next (drive on the grass to get back on SH-67) there would not have been enough time for me to stop.
What could of happen I hate to imagine, but with my truck carrying "80k lbs" and exiting at a speed of 50mph, I would have either went over them, or sent them on their way to I-20. They for sure would have been killed or seriously injured. This causing a unnecessary traffic, jam that means detouring other drivers who needed to head west on I-20. Then me having to explain t the DOT what happened and surely because I drive a "BIG TRUCK" would haven been put threw the ringer, and probably blamed for it, why because I have a "CDL" and surely it must have been my fault.
Lucky for me my truck is equipt with a camera (drive cam), which would have helped the investigators, and my safety department determine who was actually at fault.
So in the future if you miss a exit, "please, please", continue on and pull over when it is safe, then decide what you have to do to get back heading in the right direction.. Remember a "WRONG DECISION", could be a costly one.
