@Jlind - I noticed more than 15 years ago before I got into trucking, and see it in trucking also, that often, the company you apply do WILL NOT call back - it is up to you to contact them. I've got two apps working right now that needed the kickstart of me following up with a phone call when my initial inquery led to no response.

As to the safety report, you fail to take many things into consideration - (I have addressed this in previous posts)
the scores you see are based on information that goes back 24 months - and in 2009 there were multiple problems with the management of the company and in 2010 Jamal Lewis, the owner, stepped up and began to try to reorganize to get the scores up (there were audits which basically meant he HAD to). Biggest problem was due to paper logs, drivers would be pushed and didn't push back resulting in a very high percentage of HOS violations. We have been an elog company since before I came on board in December and as far as I know, violations have dropped drastically (the safestat score itself had dropped from 90 to 70 in 6 months if I recall - again, I posted this info previously).
There was a new safety director in 2010 who cleaned house firing almost 2 dozen of the worse drivers - 2 dozen jobs that then had to be filled by newbies. He in turn was fired by the President for taking such a drastic measure. The Presdent was then fired by Mr. Lewis. The company IS evolving to a more safety focused (and not profit focused) operation by those in the front office.
Your idea of turning back a truck to reduce speeding violations is kind of funny. How far do we turn it back, to 25mph? Otherwise, at 55, the driver is still capable of speeding so what's your point? That is a driver habit fault, not a company fault.

I've been talking all about the issues with this company, warts and all, and it has been mostly warts, but the fact is they have been on the upswing for more than a year and that wont be reflected in the CSA scores for another 12 months.

bbmyl... I was joking about the turning the trucks back first off, probably why it sounded kind of funny, it was meant to... I don't think that solves anything and creates a whole different set of problems that I won't go into.

I also agree that ONCE I have an app in with a company I do follow up on the process until I get a definitive answer but when I contact a company to inquire and get voice mail and no return call I tend to think the answer is NO we aren't hiring but I could be wrong about that so I will leave it alone.

Other than that I agree if the company is making an effort to improve it is a place I would like to work at and better then a place that believes status quo is great, I am always trying to improve myself and would welcome an opportunity to work with others of like mind. Unfortunately not all that many companies are of like mind....

I don't know what their current hiring situation is. As of 3 weeks ago, after they had stopped taking apps for a few weeks, they were supposedly accepting apps, but not currently hiring.
In a previous post is one of my complaints about lack of communication at the company. Almost every phone you try to reach rolls over to a voicemail system. Operations staff have company issued cell phones and are expected to be available, yet even in the daytime, we often get voice mail, and worse, "mailbox full". VERY frustrating when trying to deal with immediate issues. I know I rarely call the main number 282-1911 due to frustration so I just call someone in the company and have THEM get me to the proper person, LOL!

Is it posible to jusst go to the lakeland terminal and "walk in" and talk to some one? I'm a little over an hour north of there and could easily make a nice bike ride out of it!! That way I could meet someone and not just be a faceless name on an answering machine?? I think the address is on the website but I'm not sure where the number I called went to...
Let me know what you think!!
    Thanks for the info too...

This company has shifted operations so much, I'm not sure how they work it. Hiring and operations used to be in Calhoun. Then they closed that office but the load managers have an office nearby (but I think they mostly work out of their homes). The HQ then shifted to an office building on West Peachtree in Atlanta. That's where I went to be interviewed, fill out paperwork, get sent for physical etc and get my "orientation" (here's some paperwork you'll need, heres a 5 minute class on qcom and elogs, and here's the keys to your truck - its up in Calhoun). The main personnel girl is there as is the safety guy and the brokers.
In Lakeland ( just off exit 28 ) they seem to be remaking the Calhoun terminal. 2 load planners are there, the maintenance is done there, the man who I think will soon be a VP (he is currently head of maintenance and fleet ops) has an office there. Also Kathy who has a title of "recruiter" and who does much of the paperwork (payroll, daily vehicle inspection logs) is there.
The 800-282-1911 number is to the ATL office/main switchboard.
I dont know if Kathy does hiring directly, or just processes applicants who then have to go to ATL. I THINK, it is done now in Lakeland (they do have a folding table with some audio visual training stuff on it, LOL!).
Message me for the phone and address, and call first and talk to Kathy and you can tell her you were chatting with Bruce Brandon on the computer - she's aware that I have been posting here. Feel free to ask more specific questions thru private messages and I can go into a little more detail than I care to share on the public forum.

Just so you know...the Lakeland, FL terminal is empty. There's nothing there now but one trailer and one truck. Everything else is gone. I think their sign is still up, but it looks like the company went under. I worked for them for about 9 weeks back in 2010 and quit. I started October 28th, and I did not see my house again under Christmas afternoon.

The Lakeland dispatcher Ken Taylor called me the next morning and left me a voicemail saying they had Publix store loads to do. I did not return the call.

He called me again a little later and left a voicemail. That call was not returned either. There was not a third call. I guess he finally took the hint.

In January I decided to go back to school and that is where I have been ever since. Should have done it long before that.

He's right. If you are solo, they still expect you to deliver team loads on time. I was team and had no problems. My partner left, so I was solo. And yes, they told me to run on line 5 "off duty driving". I did it twice. They expected it to continue. After I refused to run illegally, several people a day called to raise their voice at me. That is something I will not tolerate.

AAX has no DAC report !!!! They cannot be contacted by phone.
It is causing problems in my job search. Hopefully I can use my paystubs to verify employment.
