    Are they grease or oil?

I can now confirm it’s grease. Apparently trailers today are now using grease instead of oil. My guess is so drivers won’t be put out of service.

Some are grease some are still oil, not sure why. Like hydraulic clutches, they were used in the 50's and 60's then done away with and came back full circle in the 80's and the grease started back in the 90's.
I still prefer oil, but have owned both, I had no trouble with the grease, I just like the ability to check them.

My step deck was grease and I finally changed it over to oil, the grease actually ran cooler, maybe that is why. they have been going back to it.
I think it is more like they want everything to be not servicable anymore, hence the lifetime u=joints and steer axle hubs.

DOT won’t be happy to hear about non-serviceable items. :D

Oh, wait, wasn’t I just busted on a non-serviceable item!

The world is going to non serviceable throwaway everything, including the trucking industry, and has been slowly going that way for years. Look how far back spring brakes went to throw away, now u-joints and front hubs. lol

Not sure, probably different for different applications, but the replacement ones have grease certs. lol
My neighbors new truck has them, but they are greasable again on it, so maybe they gave up on that idea, or maybe because it is speced for Alaska.
I have heard that pete will no longer spec an Alaska rig with the air ride steer, they have been breaking left and right.

My new KW doesn’t even have a grease able drive line.

Edit: just saw that was mentioned already. I do wonder how long it’ll last. I figured shorter then a well greased normal one, but longer then a sporadically greased one that’s meant to be greased.

    UPDATE—

The work on the trailer was completed about a week ago and was luckily covered under warranty. So no cost at all, just the down time. I asked the mechanic how long are the HUB seals good for, and he said at least 5 years.

Going back to the stolen fuel incident, I just realized that a good tip to prevent fuel theft is to park where there is enough lighting on both sides of your truck. I was actually parked right in front of the Love’s tire shop, but I remember there wasn’t enough lighting.
