Yes , but on the bright side , the company hired him for that job , that in its self means nothing , but if someone else really wanted that job they would have tried to get it when it was open.

 

With the high turnover in the the trucking industry, it shouldn't take him long to gain seniority.

 

Thats why. All the other drivers are on bids when new work comes in, they hire, and at next bid out the new work goes in the pool. Dont count on having it. He might get lucky, tell him to either say nothing about the route, or talk about how #### it is.

 

That's how my company assigns runs once per year. Senior drivers picks his run & truck, and then each driver in turn based on seniority.

And the lower you are in seniority the faster you move up. Everyone that leaves is boosting your seniority. I hired on at 35 and was 30 within a year, then 20, then 15, and been at 3-5 for a decade or more. It takes an Act of Congress to move up 1 spot now.
