These things are a result of today's society. Now, again, no offence to some but ....

Many of today's generation have never had to do anything mechanical & I don't mean turning bolts. I just mean physical as in physics. Mom & dads have become soft in raising children & have let children just go play. Children have never had to do anything in the way of self serving. Therefore they don't know how to do anything. Parents did everything for their children. All they had to do was go play & come eat.
It ain't just the parents, its technology. It does everything for you. They don't have to do anything. Software, automation, technology, AI etc.

All this does is remove the actions of physically doing things with your hands & mind. If you don't do anything, you never learn to do it. That skill is lost. We talk a lot about auto-shifting transmissions. Its because society has removed that skill. Many don't know how to operate a manual transmission. That skill is lost.
My point, society has made our society dumber. I don't mean that critically as such, just a fact. It all leads to the fact, again, everything has taken away skill. There is little physical or mechanical skill in today's society. Most just don't have the physical skills to do everyday things.
At the end of the day, since there is little physical skill, technology is put in place to compensate for the lack of physical or mechanical skill within the generation coming into trucking. Because they've never had to do things.... they've always had human or technological intervention to do everything for them.
So instead of training todays drivers, they implement software to do it all for you. You don't have to physically or mentally do anything. It does it all for you. It tells you, you crossed the fog line or you're following to close or you need to hit your brakes or you need to turn your turn signal on or....
You don't have to problem solve anything.... therefore making today's society, dumber & dumber.

In short, this stuff is in place due to a lack of skill, which removes further skill. Then they have to implement more tech (AI) to make up for lost skill, which removes further skill & the circle continues.

Again, this isn't dogging today's generation as such. It really not their fault for the most part. Its todays society. Its everyone & everything that has taken away the skill, physical, mechanical & problem solving skills within today's society. It has made the human race, less able.... and this isn't just the youngsters, it has made us all dumber. When they take away the skill & force automation down our throats, they take away knowledge & problem solving. It makes the human race dumber & dumber.

Physics: For every action, there is an equal & opposite reaction.
For everything good technology does, it removes an equal & opposite human action.
Making us dumber & dumber by forcing us to rely on someone or something else to do it for us.

You're exactly right but that's only half of it.
The other half is that we have let lawyers run our society.

All the safety features are just as much about avoiding litigation as they are getting dumber humans to do a job for less.

Just like social media and all the modern news channels that are more like drug dealers than they are journalists, once this stuff is out of the bag there's no going back.

Big tech, Journalists and lawyers are a lot more to blame for all the things we hate than politicians or trucking company owners, And you certainly can't blame the OEM truck manufacturers.

If they didn't offer the safety features everybody else does they'd be sued out of business tomorrow.

They reason why you can no longer lease a Penske truck without all the safety nannies is Ideal Lease had a judgement for multi millions a couple of years ago due to leasing a truck where the safety nannies were optional. I believe it was a dump truck leased to customer and the driver ran a red light or stop sign and killed someone, both the company who leased the truck and Ideal Lease were sued and lost. The lawyer said Ideal Lease was negligent for not equipping all trucks with every available safety technology.
