If Egypt can shut down, so can truckers. It's like a snowball effect. Once it starts rolling down the hill, it will get bigger and bigger. We need a good leader and some truckers with big gonads. :)

The problem is when someone yells strike, too many say "Yeah Right". Or they think of the short term that they have bills to pay.

There are many strategies. Cut off the fuel supplies, block major interstate arteries, make a protest in DC. Cutting off fuel supplies would be the easiest and others would have no choice but to join. Two to four trucks could bottle up each truck stop. The last big snow storm would of been a good start as truck stops are full.

It wouldn't take all drivers either to make a statement. Cops could do nothing but watch if it was headlines. Once a weak driver seen it was for real, they would join in. Fuel sales might shut down, but Subway's sales would skyrocket.

There are thinkers, doers and ones that are okay with being walked on.

I started driving in 1993. I have been parked everytime someone called for a shutdown. I think it would really work. It would take a real effort to get everybody on track. I am not certain what would get everybody motivated. We really don't have much to lose at this point. The ones who aren't making it would have a new chance and the ones who are making it right now would only have it better. I work hard for what I get and it doesn't seem like it is ever enough. And no mattter how good you are it is never good enough. I have customers that really do appreciate what I do for them and what it takes to get theirloads where they want them when they want them. But we all know there are too many out there that don't care about anything but what they can get from someone elses work. For example I had a broker Dave at Hodge Transportation In Missouri broker me a load of pipe foor $1600.00. I took it because frieght was slow in that area. The shipper asked me what the load was paying me I told him the truth and he told me the truth. The load payed the broker $2100.00. I think everybody should make money even broker but I think it should be a resonable amount. At $600.00 per load Dave made almost as much after expenses as I did. Admiral Merchants had the same loads post the very next week for $1596.00. The shipper knows now and neither one will be brokering for him in the future. This is one true story out of millions. Stand Up for yourselves or Get Cut Out of the pack sooner or later. I AM IN. ONE MORE TIME. In case you you haven't been out from under your rock lately, standing up for yourself and your fellow man is work today in Eygypt. It can work here to all it takes is you and me.

As one poster said...we are all living paycheck to paycheck...and right now, during the slowest season...I doubt there are many that could be able to put aside much if any funds to tolerate losing their job IF they did try to strike or shut a company rig down...even for one day!

The majority of trucking companies aren't keeping drivers who are willing to stand and fight for rights, pay or benefits....there is almost a bottomless pit of newbies waiting in the wings at the fleabag truck schools, company academies, and community college schools.

and to the post that claimed OOIDA is looking out for ALL drivers....HORSE PUCKEY...they did not win those cases...some high priced, over paid attorneys...not in the direct employ of OOIDA won those cases....check with "truckerjustice.com" and see who is actually getting some paybacks for drivers screwed over by companies and the BS hire/fire tactics! OOIDA, yeah they were in it....for the pay off and nothing more! the poster who said we need a real union for all drivers had it right...OOIDA is nothing but big money lobbyists who do nothing but let the FMCSA, DOT, and mega carriers get 85% of what they ask for...the other 15% is "give aways" to make OOIDA appear to be for the little guy!

Truckers would have to get on course with a list of demands. You just can't strike and not know what you want. I could see it now a company asking his driver why he isn't moving. Uh, because everyone else isn't. Doh!

If you are not making money right now, you are part of the problem. Don't haul cheap freight! Get fuel surcharges to compensate you for the increases. Going on strike will only keep the lowlifes you are competing against busy and in cash flow.

    Because it is a joke.

Hasn't anyone ever heard of the RICO act? Does anyone want to actually face or search prision time because of the RICO act?

The Rico act covers many different things. One is terrorism. By going on strike or organizing a national shut down you are willingly doing something that can & most likely collaspes & destroy the US economy (yes, even worse then then the fool we have for President). By organizing & participating in a strike, nationwide shut down, or whatever you want to call it you truely are creating an act of terrorism......

Do you really want to be in a prison cell with Osama sliding up your back side? I don't!

There are many reasons as to why I won't participate in your childish antics. The RICO act is one of those reasons.

Now I honestly want to know why you want to go on strike? Is it because of rising fuel costs? because if it is & your going broke over it, then that falls upon your shoulder's because you fail to negotiate your price!

Is it because of the HOS? I think the current HOS rules are great! And the proposed rules are just that! PROPOSED!!! You want to stop them from being enacted? Then make yourself heard & place a comment on the FMSCA's website!

Are you against the opening of the Mexican border? Shut those trucks down & go on strike! We'll see how the works! Those Mexican trucks will be up here before your ignition key is in the off position.

your so wrong in that. but i won't argue with you about it here.

jjohnston@ooida.com is the email for the president of OOIDA, Jim Johnston.
send him an email with you above statement and ask him to refute it and prove you wrong.

i guarantee you will get back an answer that will be very civil and prove to you that your wrong on your assessment of OOIDA and what they do for you and all truckers out here.

what say you? will you do it ?

too many company drivers out there who don't agree with you and won't risk their jobs.

Lots of guys are doing well. You don't hear too much from them because they want to keep their good jobs a secret.
