Ok first of all I am a smoker and have been smoking for years. I am on my first week with my trainer who is male and I am female. At first he would smokewith the windows up and I told him it was bothering me because my sinuses started acting up and glands swollen. He started cracking the windows but when he talked he would roll them back up and I would ask him to roll them back down. I don't know how someone can smoke with no air ventilation. I would be in my top bunk sleeping and wake up to the smell of smoke and have to get out of the truck. I just cant take his cigarettes. He smokes 305's and they are disgusting. He doesn't like that I am having problems with it and keeps threatening that I need to get another trainer and I wouldn't mind at all if he did but it took a month just to get him as atrainer so I don't if I will have to wait forever again for a trainer. So far the living conditions just suck and my sinuses are on fire and my nose is runny. We are at a truck stop and I'm inside cuz I don't want to sit in the truck and be miserable. I wish training would just end already but I have a few more weeks to go. Ugh!

Top bunk while he's driving?? I don't know of a company that allows that, you should let your training coordinator know.

I'm a hard-core non smoker... is it the brand of cigarettes that bothers you? I mean, since you smoke, why such a radical reaction? Just thinking.

I'd definitely talk to whomever handles your training status, though.

No I am supposed to drive the whole 28 days of training but he has driven a couple hrs when I'm exhausted. I think he's just trying to make easy money on me. But anyway..So we sleep at the same time. I think it is the brand of cigarettes because his smoke is a lot thicker than mine and they are a cheap brand. I smoke marlboro menthol 72's which are short light menthols. His are very strong and everytime I get in the truck I sneeze like crazy. I have never sneezed so much in my life. So I am not enjoying training so far. I'm ready to get my own truck and get out of this smokey box!

i THOUGHT that Female Drivers or trainers cant go with males? weird.Get another trainer.Thats sad whats going on for you. Thats aggravating and 2nd hand smoke is worse than smoking.Even if its temporary its still no good. Good Luck!

Yeah it would've been nice to get a female trainer but they must be hard to come by. I waited a month for this guy and he is killing me. I think I'm a good driver and can do this job. Its just hard living with someone who doesn't like breathing air. I may be a smoker but I love air. Yeah my training is not the best experience.

I thought it was illegal for a driver to smoke in a commercial vehicle, at least that is what my instructor told me.... does the company not enforce the rules???:biggrin_25524:

It's never been illegal by any statue, other than a company's policy, to smoke inside a CMV. The only exception is when hauling some hazmat loads.

Remember it's his truck, but he still should make some kind of changes to his smoking habit if it's bothering you that bad. I guess you have 3 choices, put up with it for a few more weeks, get another trainer or quit.
