That deal doesn't sound too bad at all. 6 months indentured servitude isn't too unreasonable an amount of time to give a company, either.

Have you tried Isothermal CC in North Carolina. They have about 1/3 of their students from out of state and recruiters think a lot of them. I had a friend go through there and he loved it.

Be careful of Alliance. They have a habit of showing up on your door step at night with a contract in hand anxious for your to sign. The aount depends on how much they feel they can get out of you.

Ring o' The Kite, how much is tuition at Isothermal Community College for an out-of-state student?

I second what you say about Alliance. I had a guy show up at my door with a contract printed on yellow paper. He drove a nice Ford Explorer, and I imagine he didn't even have a CDL. Like a fool, I signed the contract.

When I arrived at Alliance, I noticed all the insiders drove nice cars. They should have been, as tuition was 5000 bones there when I went in '95.

You don't even know if you'll like truck driving, so you shouldn't pay much for tuition. You may love it. You may hate it. With that risk in mind, I'd go cheap. Donald Trump would. Warren Buffet would. Think like those guys.

Remember your opportunity cost here. This is the money you'll lose because you're at school and not working. A solid month of not working and no income will cost you. It cost me more than 4,000. I have to add that amount to the 5,000 in cash I dropped for tuition.

I'm surprised Alliance is actually cheaper now. It's still way overpriced, though. They need to make it about 750 bucks for it to be worth it. Then they need to make it about 2 weeks so one's opportunity cost is low enough to justify quitting work to go to school.

Don't even THINK of going with an indentured servitude contract, just in case you are faced with that prospect. If you do go that way, your company will hold a huge weight over you until you're done with your slavery period. If you quit on day 360 of a year-long, you still owe the whole amount. And knowing how trucking companies are, I know I wouldn't allow them to hold that weight over my head for one minute. No #### way.

Your cloud now has a silver lining. Go to the employment office and say exactly that: "Give me some #### money."

Ask 'em for a grant for some kind of training. Tell 'em you're unemployed and need to get working again.
