Allison 4060 TCM question

    I converted a firetruck to use regionally. It has a 4060 but 6th gear is programmed out. Allison wont release a new program without a written letter from the manufacturer. Manufacturer is ok with the reprogram, but wont write a letter.

    Question: if I found a tcm with 6th gear unlocked, do you think it would be plug and play?

    If you get one that has the same engine family and the same rear gear ratio, you can get one that will “work”. But you would need to be very critical of your shift points and verify they are pretty close to the same. ALLISON TCMs are so meticulous. I’ve swapped TCMs around on a lot of trucks for test purposes some work perfect, some waaayyyy off the O.E.
