K. I'm a cat hair away from going to get my CDL.
Twice in the last couple of weeks a trucker has been in his left turn lane and I in mine...so turning from my 2 o'clock and ending at my 9 o'clock, and nearly clipped me....makes me nervous to go out there myself.
Was just heading to the store a few hours back and this truck starts turning...I'm identifying the truck...company... trailer...trying to establish if there is anything I may want to look up on here regarding anything i was seeing.....and this dude comes within an inch of running in to me with the back of his trailer. The guy next to me yells out ####, that was close!
With all I've read about preventables destroying ones career it makes me nervous.
I live in Nor Cal, so maybe it's the streets. I was way behind the line too
Almost hit twice in a week...

Are you talking about situations where there are 2 left turn lanes?
Were you in a truck or a 4 wheeler?AModelCat Thanks this. -
Consider it a learning experience which will make you a safer cdl driver.

If you are in California and in a four wheeler then you are fair game to any trucker out there. Them's the rules because it doesn't matter your state is going to fall off into the ocean any day now anyway.
ira1377 and lagbrosdetmi Thank this. -
I'm not completely understanding the scenario "2 o'clock and ending at 9 o'clock"? But regardless, trucks need some help from others in some situations, maybe they get help maybe they don't. But defensive and courteous driving is needed from all, at all times. But you didn't get hit, but if you're in the process of driving and turning and also reading all the information on the side of a moving truck, maybe you're deviating some yourself and not paying attention to what you should be paying attention to? I'm just asking if maybe there is equal blame or there really wasn't an issue.

I'm in a 4 wheeler it's a 4 way intersection. I dunno if it was just that tight or the driver should have swung wider. Not a situation with 2 turn lanes next to each other.
Been on here researching for a looong time. Chinatown!! I should really thank you for all the advice you've given to everyone on here, Its helped me immeasurably. I can't tell you how many times your info has sent me on hours-long research binges. Your info has largely created my "short list" -
Unless the truck had the word SWIFT on it you were never in any danger.
Chewy352, Lepton1, Ryan423 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Are you one of them people who pull up a car length past the white stop line, and then wonder why turning vehicles almost cross your hood?
banders77 and Giuseppe Ventolucci Thank this. -
So there were 4 turn lanes.
He didn't hit you so he had enough room. When you get in the big truck sometimes you'll get to those turns and have to wait a bit until you have room to make the turn. Sometimes because people pull up past the white line, sometimes because the intersection isn't designed for something that needs that much room. And sometimes you'll find you have just enough room to squeeze by the day dreaming 4 wheeler sitting there.
When approaching a 4 way and you see a truck is going to turn towards where you are it's a good idea to stop a bit further back than normal to make it easier for the truck to complete the turn.Chewy352 and Giuseppe Ventolucci Thank this.
