After reading some other posts on here I am almost second guessing if I want to go into truck driving. Some people said the truck driving industry is all about corruption.
I am a single, 21 year old. I'm about to graduate college (my degree is in Christian Ministry - something I plan on using a bit later in life). I have always loved driving, although I don't have any real experience with semis.
I want to drive truck; I would like to do a dedicated run, or regional, but I wouldn't mind OTR for a couple years first. - With that said, I would like to meet someone and get my own place sometime - I don't want to do OTR my whole life. I could easily see myself delivering for a FedEx route eventually. I plan on attending SAGE driving school in a few months and go from there. I have been looking into Werner, Swift, and Watkins Shepard. And I would like a company that I can get a dog and have with me in the truck, I love animals.
Any advice for me? Should I try to get on with a company who will pay for my school or pay for it myself and then find a company to drive for?

Truckerdan, you're always better off to pay it yourself and NOT be obligated to an employer. Many have tuition reimbursement for students that do it that way.

Watkins allows pets as do many others....And I agree with the above post, don't limit your options...

Don't limit options is right I am looking at otr as well and a degree in christian ministry that is awesome... Hey it is always better to as well to go to a off branch school other than a company you will get more one on one time.

I would like to just add that you will never know if you really like truck driving until you do it and at that for a few months. If you have a desire already then thats a plus Im sure. I went with a solo carrier as i was very opposed being a team driver and living with someone. This I already knew about myself so it worked out as everything else was just par for the course.

Richsotr is correct you will never know what you like until you jump into the mix and try it out.
